This is number 3 of a series but I haven't read the first two and had no difficulty following this one. It's an excellent book. The pacing is first rate and there are enough plot twists to create a maze. The ending is a little on the open side but presumably the author wants something to work with in the next book. All things considered I thoroughly enjoyed it.
