Wait… What!?
Okay, contrary to a post I wrote last September called a A Lot of Firsts on my other Blog The More You Think, where I insisted I wouldn’t join because I hate MZ
, I have ended up joining Threads and the Gram as I try and promote Grey Feather.
I’ve been on both a few weeks now, and Threads is winning so far, but I happened upon a post last week that stopped me in my tracks.
It could have been a post just to garner a slew of responses, but still, and I didn’t expand the post or drill down, because that might be what they wanted, but the upshot was that apparently an author had been ‘cancelled’, because they wrote about being a mother whilst not being a mother.
Is that not the point of fiction? I know we’re suppose to write about what we know, but the writing gods wouldn’t have created research if we were supposed to always stay in our little pencil case. I for one, definitely like to think outside of the pencil case box, and have written about many things that I’m not, from a thief to a dead person, from a mum to a male, and many characters in between.
The more I think about this cancellation the more ridiculous it sounds. TS Elliot wrote about cats, Stephenie Meyer might have mentioned vampires, and Kim Harrison? Pixies, vampires, witches, and werewolves.
If I stick with writing about what I am or what I know, I doubt it would be a great read, my work life— until someone decides to chuck money at me to write, is admin…
Until next week
