We move from Simmering to boiling over. I have a bunch of ongoing projects, and I’m heading into a really busy time, with lots of travel and workshops. I want to actually FINISH something (or three) this month. Let’s see how I do! (That story I thought was going to 12k-15k words? It’s 16k and counting. Which makes two novella rough drafts I’m working on, a novel draft that needs another revision, a short story that needs writing, and maybe a play? Hrm.)

This month’s lesson: Genre vs. Literary. Is it even a thing? I have thoughts.

I’m going to Worldcon in Anaheim in August. I’ve also got a trip planned to Catalina Island right after. For all the time I’ve spent in southern California, I’ve never been to Catalina, and I’m really excited. Yes, scuba will be happening! Kelp forests!

I think I’ve finally gotten past my Midsomer Murders rewatch. For a while there it was just the easiest thing to turn on. Now, I’ve started in on the latest season of Resident Alien, a show that I love. We need more science fiction comedy/horror. I’m also catching up on Monarch: the Legacy of Monsters, which continues to be utterly gonzo and delightful.

Have I talked movies? Project Hail Mary: very satisfying. The Mandalorian and Grogu: very Star Wars, and since I love Star Wars, it’s great. New planets, new intrigues, lots of eye candy and fan service. I love that Grogu gets to be a protagonist in this one and more than amusing luggage. And my one burning question left hanging from The Clone Wars finally has an answer! Whatever happened to Rotta the Hutt? Now we know. I haven’t seen Disclosure Day and have heard really mixed reviews – any of you seen it and have thoughts? I’m hoping to get to Supergirl this week.

Birds seen recently: Western Tanager, Lesser Goldfinch, Western Grebe, Bobolink. I need to get out more.

Now, I should get back to work.
