Recipe Commentary
I just saw a recipe post that was for a pie that included apples, figs, and raisins in equal portions. The very first comment was from someone who said they didn't like figs or raisins, and could the OP give instruction on making the recipe without them?Argh.Recipe posts seem to get certain flavors of comments, so to speak. We get Kevin and Kathy Killjoy:"Yuck! Why would you make this with cheese?""It looks like something a goat threw up.""I'm lactose intolerant, so I can't even LOOK at this without getting diarrhea."Then we get Sue and Stanly Sycophant who comment five minutes after the original post on a recipe that takes two hours to make:"I just made this, and it's fantastic!""This is so easy to make. My kids loved it!""I took this to a party just now and everyone devoured it!"And we have Substitution Sally and Sammy:"Can you use baking powder instead of baking soda?""Would it work to use green bananas instead of ripe ones?""What about using carrots instead of steak?"We also have Do-It-For-Me Darla and Danny:"Please post a kosher version of your shrimp-and-bacon wraps so I can make it for my in-laws.""Could you repost this for the microwave? My oven is broken.""Can you redo this chocolate cake recipe so it doesn't use sugar, flour, eggs, milk, or chocolate?"Dearie, dearie me.
