Oh, how I love this book. One of the most famous opening lines in any work of fiction and one of those books that just makes you wish you could go back in time. Set during a long hot summer in Edwardian times, it centres around Leo - for whom nothing will ever be the same again. Read this and watch the Julie Christie film of the book and fall in love with both. I cry every time.
