Reading Aloud

I am about done with my book manuscript. Now comes the really bald part -- reading it aloud to myself. When I do that, I learn ten times more than if I were to read it to myself silently.

Reading aloud changes things. I hear the cadence of sentences and they are not what I thought they were. I hear ideas and ask whether I'm just talking automatically. It's a great way to put your writing through a tough test, a reality test, a no BS test.
