Hush: Her Best Kept Secrets excerpt
Here's an excerpt from my published poetry book. It highlights the book's balance of flow of consciousness and simple rhyming to create a melodious flow of thought. This is the poem entitled "Headphones":
And this is what it has to be
pictures staring holes through me
drowning out my thoughts
by the music in my headphones
It tells me I"m fine without you
that I don't need you anymore
but I just can't see how that's true
because I feel so unglued
so in love with you
And this guitar won't let me think
it vibrates through me too deep
reminding me of the hollow space
you left in my heart in this glass case
and that fire that lighted in my eyes
has sunk its way down into my stomach
rising up when you open your mouth
I scream but it comes out as a smile
I cry but it comes out as a laugh
you pull me close and I push you away
but it comes out as a passive glance
The light flashes, we're caught on tape
Seemingly so happy, so ignorant
you kiss me, I say I hate you
but it just comes out as an I love you
too bad you don't really know what I mean
let me drown in my thoughts, turn away
I'll turn the music back on
and this is what it has to be
Pictures staring holes through me
And this is what it has to be
pictures staring holes through me
drowning out my thoughts
by the music in my headphones
It tells me I"m fine without you
that I don't need you anymore
but I just can't see how that's true
because I feel so unglued
so in love with you
And this guitar won't let me think
it vibrates through me too deep

you left in my heart in this glass case
and that fire that lighted in my eyes
has sunk its way down into my stomach
rising up when you open your mouth
I scream but it comes out as a smile
