So I thought I'd tell you a little about my hobby--racing my dogs in flyball. Flyball is best described as a relay race for dogs. Our flylball club is BC Boomerangs with members from Wisconsin and Illinois. We run at least two teams, Dragondogs and Barkbarians. Each team consists of at least four dogs, with two dogs available for substitution. Four dogs compete in the race which is against another team of dogs.
Two dogs from each team line up for the start, with the other three dogs behind them "on the line" ready to go. A light tree like they use with race cars counts down the start. A perfect start is .000. The dogs race fifty feet down the lane and over four jumps to a spring-loaded box at the end of the lane. The dog hits the box, which triggers a tennis ball. The dog catches the ball, runs back over the four jumps. The next dog passes the first dog and so on until all four dogs have raced. Fastest team wins the heat.
We participate in tournaments in about a five state area, including the Can Am national championships in Indianapolis. One of our teams has won our division three years in a row.
Hopefully I can figure out to post a video so you can see the fun!
Run fast! Bark loud!
