Ain't no cure for the summertime blues...
I chose to post a picture of my children swimming, since this summer has mainly focused on just that - perfecting the summer for my kids. I try to live vicariously through them, I try to mold an intentional yet peaceful existence for them... such as swimming in the beautiful mountains of NH.That being said, I'm in severe overdrive and wonder when the engine will catch fire. With a book signing in the middle of my work day Friday, I'm nervous and wound tighter than a, well, than an author who works a huge day job with a bunch of children. :)
I feel like I'm serving two masters, at least, and it's given me the blues. I love children and teaching, yet I'm in love with my writing career and want nothing more than to hole up in a turret with a stream of coffee and some Trent Reznor to inspire me. I have a notebook full of ready-to-go writing for the sequel to On Gallows Hill, and yet I can't seem to get a moment in the writer's room. Summer is a lot of work and there's just no denying it. So I find myself catching moments here and there, typing at lightning speed, to maintain a marketing platform and continue the buzz, because as we know too well, if you don't keep blowing on the fire, it will surely peter out. Wishing you all a wonderful, serene remainder of your summer... and here's to throwing some sunshine on these blues and putting one foot in front of the other. God bless!
