Farewell Summer by
Ray BradburyMy rating:
4 of 5 starsI suppose it's fitting that I finished this on Labor Day Weekend. A sweet coda to Dandelion Wine, this book brings us back to Green Town and young Doug's struggles with youth, maturation, and mortality. Many of the same themes appear: boys being boys, the mysticism of the haunted ravine, and the wisdom of the old (in case the young actually want to hear it). It lacks some of the delicious lyricism of its precursor, but is definitely worth a read; and I would say if you're a Bradbury fan it's probably a must-read.
