The Lost Brother
So September flashed by and ended with the release of my new eBook novella, The Lost Brother, a prequel to The Vengeance Path.
It's out now on amazon for a cheery £1.53:

It was originally available exclusively to those wonderful people who came to see me at the Edinburgh Book Festival this summer. I've given it a thorough re-edit (thank you shout out to my test readers) and it is now out there for folks to hopefully enjoy.
It is set three years before The Vengeance Path and is about Lord Nessan Yulano, and his fall from grace into exile from his family, House Yulano.
When creating the character of Nessan, I thought long and hard about his backstory, and it was referred to briefly in a couple of scenes in The VP. I really wanted to have a go at exploring his past and the decisions he made that led to him becoming a monk with the Order of Hollftar.
Originally, I was going to tell Nessan's story as a series of flashbacks in book two, Children of War (which I'm working on now), but decided that I wanted to do Nessan's fall justice - and reward those lovely people who attended my book fest event.
I'm pleased with how The Lost Brother turned out; it has given me some impetus to get stuck into the long slog that will be book two, and has really allowed me to explore Nessan's character in some depth. And, seeing as he has a lot more to do in book two, such character focus will pay off for you, dear reader...
