Why Witches Rock

Why Witches Rock

As a child, I was a very girly girl. For Halloween I would dress up as an angel or a fairy princess. An ugly witch with a broom and black hat? No way.

Well, my fairy princess days are far behind me and in writing the Devlin Legacy I’ve discovered that the dark side of life, and of women, has its place and can be quite powerful. I spent much of my life trying to be a Glenda the Good Witch, whitewashing all my faults. Wearing makeup all the time, never admitting when anything was less than perfect in my life.

I found it very exhausting to be a Glenda, so little by little I allowed the facade to slip a bit and what I discovered underneath wasn’t all that pretty. But it was me and it was real. By giving up the Glenda, I was able to explore the hidden depths of my own psyche which opened me up to create flawed women, some of them actual witches, who very much dwelled in the shadows. And as you can discover by reading about my family of Irish witches in the Devlin Legacy, beneath their facades things aren’t always pretty. But these women are real and powerful and I hope you’ll “give up the Glenda” and explore their world.
