Reasearch? Sigh...

So, I have a really good book idea running around in my head. The main characters have already begun their incessant dialogue, telling me to sit down and tell their story. The problem is I'm lazy when it comes to research, and this one might be a doozy. We'll see. I'm dreading what is to come but know once I start I'll love it.

When I was a student, many years ago, I didn't mind doing research for literary purposes. I actually enjoyed it. I think becoming a mom and losing a lot of "me" time is definitely the reason I groan at the thought of research now. I think I just might have to turn my teenager into my research assistant. Especially since she is better at finding info online than I am.

Okay, here is the teaser: it's a vampire novel. No, don't roll your eyes and say "another one?!". I promise this one will be different from anything I've read. And I read a lot. Now, is anyone out there a hematologist?

Summer Daniels Missy,

You say that you finished and submitted it. Are you set on traditional publishing versus self-publishing?

Just curious ... and thanks for accepting my friend request. It is nice to meet you. ;-)

Missy Jane Summer, I've gone back and forth over the issue and there are still two things holding me back from self-publishing.
1. When I first decided to submit a MS, self pubs were still "vanity" presses and taboo to any self-respecting author. Intellectually I know that's no longer the case, but I can't help but still be wary.
2. I NEED my editors. Really. Not only because there are words I like to use a lot that would drive my readers batty, but to be completely honest, it's rare for me to read a self-pubbed book that I don't find issues with. I've become a very picky reader. I'd hate for anyone to read my work and feel they wasted their money ;-)

Thanks for the friend request. Nice to meet you too :-)
