Cost: Free 2 Read

Winter's in the air. But Azure's chill isn't from the weather.

Blurb:
Azure Blackstone has a chill. And—it isn't from New Orleans' November air. She fools herself into believing she has overcome her traumatic Halloween carjacking. A flashback proves her wrong.

Frank Hickman gets credit for her rescue that awful night. Now she learns he wasn't quite truthful. Is Azure's premonition about Frank really just a bad omen? Will Frank convince her otherwise?

Scene: Azure tries to take back her life after having a flashback.

Excerpt:
Azure warred with her emotions. Some gutless person imprisoned her. Nevertheless, her strong constitution would not be broken. Just like she refused to succumb then, she rejected the notion terror would control her now.

"I won't be manipulated by fear," she yelled into the frosty night.

The words were seconds from her mouth when a beam of light that sliced through the darkness hit her. Her stomach did a loop-the-loop. Azure dashed for the cover of darkness at the building's edge. The loud drumbeat was her heart. She watched the vehicle skid to a stop in the exact spot she had just vacated.
She ducked back, braced with her palms against the brick wall.

Azure knew the door opened up by the chime's constant alert. Sweat dampened her underarms, making her quake with cold. She waited for the slam that didn't come. Had she been spotted? A look over her other shoulder revealed no refuge. All she saw was blackness.
The repetitive tone continued—grating on her nerves.

Azure tried to recall if in her quest for liberation, tunnel vision prevented her from noticing any other activity in the area. She inched along the exterior in hopes distance would shield her from discovery. Gritty particles scratched her tender palms. Her sense of touch warned her she had come to the end of the wall.

To her horror, footsteps crunched the loose gravel on the nearby concrete. The advancing sound suddenly halted, and a disembodied form sifted into the headlight beams. She was all set to run for her life—except—the form took shape.
Azure gasped.

"We can't keep meeting like this." The voice punctured the silence.

"Frank?" His outstretched arms lured Azure from her hiding place. She accepted his invitation with haste, ramming into his solid chest. The softness of his flannel shirt brushed against her face. "I didn't see your truck."

"I came back because I forgot something."

Azure loved the way he squeezed and cuddled her closer. His chin, settled on top of her head, sparked sweet visions. It aroused the likelihood fate, once again, intervened on their behalf.
