The Washington Post has an article today that discusses how vulnerable our government is to cyberterrorism. The gist of the report is that “federal agencies are ill-prepared to defend networks against even modestly skilled hackers.” In my book “Internet Kill Switch,” similar things happen. A number of details in my novel were taken directly from a declassified Department of Defense report of the possible repercussions of hackers gaining control of military networks.
It’s still hard to believe, in this era of widespread hacks like the Target fiasco, that even basic security measures are so lacking. Scary — but maybe good for my book, as the scenarios seem much less far-fetched.
