First lesson in perseverance...

Is to keep going. Genius! So I've had some delays due to the holiday season and work. My biggest problem is that I've kept devouring books in my free time rather than carve out time to write myself. But, now it is time to quit dilly dallying.

To pick up things again, I've discovered that I need to refresh my mind with what I've written thus far. Here is a snippet I found that is totally PG-13...

“Ellie, you look absolutely amazing.” Casey smiles at me while April nods in concurrence.
“Seriously. I wouldn’t be surprised if men fought to take you home from the gala tonight. Although these are high society types so maybe they’d duel or something.” She paused and took on a contemplative air. “Yeah. Probably not the fist throwing crowd.”
I look at April and can’t help but quirk an eyebrow. “Yes, probably not the fist throwing crowd, but you do realize that we aren’t living in a regency era romance, right? Dueling?”
“Whatever.”
Casey pulls out her phone to take pictures of me. “We’ll have to get some pictures of the two of you when Devin picks you up.”
“Uh, Case…You are aware that this isn’t junior prom, right?”
April snorts but Casey is persistent. “If he shows up with a corsage, I will be the one having a good laugh. Just saying…”
“Well, he didn’t arrange to coordinate with the color of my dress, so I think we are in the clear.”
A knock interrupts us and my heart races like it belongs to a hummingbird. Casey volunteers to get the door but I wish I had declined her offer and gone myself. It would have given me something to do rather than simply stand in my room and let my anxiety escalate. Casey calls out to inform us that Devin has arrived and I make my way towards the living room. As I take the last steps before the living room will come into view, I take note of the clammy sensation on my palms. I certainly can’t wipe them on my dress so I rub them together quickly and then return them to my sides. Just in time too, because with two more steps I come upon the most stunning visage of a man I have ever seen. His classic tuxedo is perfectly fitted and showcases his athletic frame. I recall our duel discussion from moments earlier and wonder if women ever threw down to defend their man. I could envision myself throwing a punch or two tonight to fend off women’s greedy hands. My hands certainly want to slide all over his body at the present moment.
“God, Elle. You look absolutely gorgeous.” My eyes dart up to Devin’s and I am thrilled to see the look of frank appreciation in his eyes and his parted mouth.

The Road to Becoming an Author

Katie Edmonds
I never really had any aspirations of becoming an author. I simply loved to get lost in the stories others created. And then, out of nowhere, I suddenly had a story I wanted to share with the world. I ...more
