MOTIVATION- EVERYONE’S NEED
When I joined Thapar University (the one, in which I am presently studying), I was not going through any good phase. I don’t want to exaggerate it so simply I wasn’t aware of what I was doing, why I was doing, what I wanted to do, what I should do, I didn’t know that I was at right place or not, I was doing something worthy or not. I didn’t know that do I really needed to do what I was doing or not. But one thing is sure, I was doing it. Yes, I was studying in this university. But trust me, at that time I really needed break from studies. But, due to parental pressure I couldn’t even ask them for same. It is not the real reason for writing this post. Real reason for writing this post is something else.
When I came to know that I am done with my first semester, next second I realized that I screwed it big time. I neither studied nor gave any exam seriously. Therefore, according to my effortless efforts, my S.G.P.A. was 4.92 in first semester. I still remember that day, it was the day of our last end semester exam and everyone had to go leave for their respective homes, next day. I and my friend Kaustubh were sitting in front of my hostel room and discussed that how big time we screwed this semester. (Even he did quite well. He scored 6.6 S.G.P.A. but he thought like he screwed his grades. I tell you!! Different people, different perceptions and different expectations). We decided that day that we will not let this happen in next semester and we will surely get good S.G.P.A. So, after that we went to our respective homes. A month later, we were in university again and 6 months later, we were again sitting on same place and we were saying same things that we will not let it happen again. Because in second semester, I scored 5.12 and he scored 7.2. Again it seemed like little for him (Different people, different perceptions, and different expectations).
Then in third semester, I got shifted to hostel-J. It is single room accommodation. Due to single room, now I had lot of time to introspect my life. I could think of the ways by which I can improve myself. I could think of areas in which I needed to work. So, I gave it a thought and decided to change my attitude towards study. I started doing studying. I started taking exams seriously and at the end, I got 7.4 S.G.P.A. I was quite happy. Now I am in 4th semester of my graduation and of course I am looking forward for better results.
I know this is not a big deal. Most of my friends are doing better than me, if you really ask me; I would say everyone is doing better. But it doesn’t make any difference, as one need to work on them. There are few things which can motivate you. Do give them a read.
Before i begin:
what is motivation?
Motivation is defined as the process that initiates, guides and maintains goal-oriented behaviors.
1) THINK ABOUT FUTURE
As I started residing in Hostel-J It gave me immense time to think about what I was doing with my life and what I would be doing after my graduation. No issues, I could fuck around well in these 4 years of my degree. But, was this adding any value to me. Would it not be a complete wastage of my time? Yes, reading novels and writing few in this time (4 years) is not bad enough. But am I sure enough that after 4 years I will be happy doing so. Certainly I will be because I love it. Now whether I am sure that I will be earning livelihood after 4 years in this field? No I am not sure. As this is also a one of the tough areas. So, isn’t it better if I start studying now, start getting decent C.G.P.A., which will make me feel quite better as well as to my well-wishers. OK, this is not any fucking reason for which I will study. The main reason is I will be eligible to sit in interviews and moreover I can even get campus placement. As I know lot of people outside, they are done with their B.tech’s and still wondering for their Jobs. As their colleges don’t provide them any chances of campus placement but if my university is providing so, I should grab this chance, OK. Now I am not sure even I will be placed or not. At least I will be eligible and will try my best. So, when I looked into my life, I got this thought and it was quite inspiring. You should try it too. I am sure it will clear your views about everything and it will motivate you to work in the field you want to.
2) Learn from others:
Most of the times we think of ourselves as genius and ignore what others are up to but I would like to suggest you to keep learning from others. Let us take the very common example that you are getting lower grades than your expectations and you want to improve your grades.
When you see those students who were far behind than you in +1 and +2 and now they are getting good grades and when every time your semester result is out, it must always force you to ask yourself a simple question that is “Are you an asshole?” NO, you must be self-answering it every time. If not, then surely you are.
Leave it, I am saying every time you feel offended when your results are out. You think for one or two days about what are you doing with your life? For that time, you promised yourself that you will not let this happen again and now you will study regularly now last but not least, you will get decent grades this time. But you say this for few days only and after that spark within you dies, you started feeling every lecture boring and every lecturer as some idiot, who keep on speaking.
Learn from those people who are working hard to get good grades. Now who cares, what you were in your coaching time. What matters is what you are doing right now. So, as you have potential, just put it in right direction, those things which always bored you will start seeming interesting to you.
3) TALK ABOUT THIS WITH YOUR LOVED ONES:
If you are not doing satisfactory, talk about this with your loved ones. Be it anyone, your parents, your siblings, your Gf/Bf. Whoever understands you properly and can give you proper solution. Tell them; what you want to do, what actually you end up doing. Trust me they will surely catch, where you need to improve and they can guide you. As they are your loved ones, you must follow what they want to say you.
4) SET GOALS:
Okay if all this seems little tough to you, like talking about your weakness with your loved ones. I can totally understand but there is nothing wrong in sharing your weaknesses.
In any case, what you can do is, you can set up goals. Set small goals. Like you want to increase your grades you need to set small goals, like you will study this subject one particular weekend. Or you will at least give one hour to study in whole week (Just one hour) even if you start giving one hour to study, it will bring you close to it and you will yourself feel like studying more and then completing subjects.
5) GET EXCITED
This sounds obvious, but most people don’t think about it much: if you want to break out of a slump, get yourself excited about a goal. I know many of my friends complaint me that I usually got excited very easily over things, but trust me, it’s important. Deep inside your heart, you will feel like you really need to do achieve your goal, on which you get excited. This excitation will help you to in putting first step towards your goal.
6) FEAR
Think about if you will not do anything then at what you will end up. I strongly believe that life goes on, no matter what. But still if you want your life in a better way you need to do work. Think about its fruitful result and start finding time for that particular task and end up doing that. As otherwise you will be doing nothing, this fear should motivate you.
7) ANNOUNCE IT PUBLICLY:
I strongly believe one thing that we should announce it loudly whatever we want to achieve in our life. Tell your goal to as many as people you can. Such that whenever you will not be going on right track, these people will make your fun and help you in reminding your goal and also, end up motivating you.
I usually work like this, whatever I plan to do, I always announce it publically, or at least in front of my friends, so that seeing them gives me motivation that I need to do particular task.
8) GET SUPPORT:
If you want to start something but you find yourself unable to do so and feeling like you can’t do it. Take support from someone. But this support must be like lift we take on road. It must be helpful to make you realize your dream and to make you reach near your destination.
Like if you want to start studying, start it with any of your studious friend, when you feel like you can do it by yourself, start doing it in your way and your timings.
9) SHOW POSITIVITY:
You need to show positivity in that particular task. It will increase your efficiency and will keep you motivated for that particular task.
10) THINK ABOUT YOUR BENEFITS, AVOID DIFFICULTIES:
One common problem is that we usually think about how hard something is. Exercise sounds so hard! Just thinking about it makes you tired. But instead of thinking about how hard something is, think about what you will get out of it. For example, instead of thinking about how tiring exercise can be, focus on how good you’ll feel when you’re done, and how you’ll be healthier and slimmer over the long run. The benefits of something will help energize you.
11) CRITICIZE YOURSELF :
Much you criticize yourself, more you can introspect what you really need in your life and at what you need improvement and what you must do to improve at this. So, criticize yourself and let others critize yourself.
12) NEVER GIVE UP:
At last, i would like to say that never give up. Your success depends only on this.
Thanks.
