You have to remember that an adverb is a modifier—an enhancer. It modifies or enhances the verb which should be a red flag that maybe you haven't chosen just the right verb. Adverbs have their place, but sometimes they are simply covering up for a weak verb. It's sometimes difficult to get teachers (and I was a teacher) to stress VERBS with kids and get away from adverbs. Verbs are where the power is in writing. That and precise nouns.
