The Big Bad News

Hi Everyone,

So you may or may not have heard, but my publisher, Strange Chemistry, is no more, effective immediately. This means they won’t be publishing Crushed after all. It’s a shock; I literally found out yesterday. It’s seven weeks before Crushed was to be released and I have no publisher and no plan, and very little information from the Angry Robot/Osprey folks to go on. But I will tell you this: I don’t know how, and I don’t exactly when, but watch for it, because Meda is coming. Crushed will be released if I have to self-pub it.

If you want to help:

(1) Assuming I end up self-pubbing, I’ll need to put together my own blog tour—so if you have a book blog, I’d love to be on it. Email me: elizacrewe at gmail

(2) Spread the word—like Cracked, like Crushed? Tell people.

(3) Buy my books

And one last thing, please keep an eye out for the other SC refugees. They are some good folks with some good books, and man, my heart is breaking for the debut authors especially. At least I’ve gotten to see my book, hold it in my hands, and read all your hilarious gif- and profanity-laden reviews. They were SO CLOSE to having their dreams come true. It’s tough guys. Tough.

It was a great experience, publishing with Strange Chemistry. Amanda Rutter was a fantastic editor to work with, and if any of you have had the pleasure of interacting with Caroline Lamb, PR-person extraordinaire, you’ll understand why this is so especially sad, not just on a professional level, but a personal one, too.

As for my Indian fans, as far as I know (I’ll now be adding that caveat to any publishing plan!), Penguin is still planning to release the whole trilogy on the Indian sub-continent, so it’s business as usual in your part of the world (woot!).

Thanks for all the support guys, it means the world to me.

E. Crewe.

Brigid Holy crap, i'm so sorry Eliza. That's heartbreaking. I hope you do publish crushed. I can't wait to read it. Will spread the word.

message 2: by Soumi (last edited Jun 20, 2014 07:43AM) (new)

Soumi Oh, NO!!!! I'm so sorry.

Though I live in India, and at least the trilogy will still be available here, I will still spread the word.

I wish you luck and success. <3

Shelby *trains flying monkeys* I'm crushed!! Your books are the best!

message 4: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Crewe Thanks guys. It blows. Blows hard.

I'm glad at least you'll be able to read it Soumi! (btw, your status update on Cracked was the first "public" feedback I ever received and it will stick with me forever: "Holy fucking shit." lol.)

message 5: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Madero (Boricuan Bookworms) I'm so sorry to hear that! I loved Strange Chem, and it must be really hard to all those authors :/ I loved Cracked, and got an eARC of Crushed, so you can count me in on anything you do with this next book. I'll email you more personally so that you can add me to any blog tours you have in mind. I wish you the best and that you succeed with publishing this book. You are a fantastic author, your fans love you. I'm sure all will work. And I hope the same for the other authors. Have a good day! :)

message 6: by Yzabel (last edited Jun 20, 2014 08:00AM) (new)

Yzabel Ginsberg Obviously, I didn't hit "Like" because the news is likeable, but I hope it'll get the post seen.

If you go the self-publishing road, I'd be happy to help with a blog tour or something. I read both "Cracked" and "Crushed" (ARC through NetGalley) and loved them, and they definitely deserve to be read.

message 7: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Crewe Thanks Jennifer and Yzabel, I really appreciate it.

Kristen So sorry to hear this :( I loved Cracked, and am so looking forward to book 2 :D

Anne Tilney So sorry to hear this. If you go the self-publishing road, I would be glad to help anyway I can like doing a blog tour.

message 10: by Sakina (new)

Sakina Hey I am from India and though I am glad Penguin is going to publish the trilogy and I'll be able to have it, I am sad that SC is no longer publishing Crushed. I'll suggest Cracked to each one of my friends and whoever loves reading books.
I may actually gift it to my friend who has an upcoming birthday. ^_^
Don't worry! Wish you all the luck!!! :*

message 11: by Alexa (new)

Alexa I am so sorry to hear about this, but don't worry, we will buy your book no matter what. We NEED more Meda!

Eliza Crewe Thanks everyone. It's been a tough couple of days, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support.

they denied me too, although I'm a new reviewer. Hehe. Plus I don't know what the hell to put on my profile on Netgalley. But RAGE!!!!

message 16: by Nafiza (new)

Nafiza I'm so sorry about this. I loved Cracked and loved Crushed even more. I'll get everyone I know to read the books and I'd be totally down for a blog tour.

Khanh, first of her name, mother of bunnies Eliza, I'm so sorry I missed this yesterday but I just wanted to let you know that should you self-pub, I would be happy to promote the fuck out of Crushed. I am so upset and I can only imagine how you must be feeling right now. Please let me know whatever I can do to help, I'm offering my full support.

message 18: by Nenia (new)

Nenia Campbell That's so awful! I'm sorry! I too would love to promote you. :)

message 19: by Cathryn (new)

Cathryn I'm so sorry this happened. If you decide to self-publish I will definitely be buying and even though I don't have a blog I will tell everyone I know to buy your book. I absolutely LOVED the first one.

Eliza Crewe Thanks for all the messages, everyone. Sorry for the radio silence. I decided to unplug for the rest of the weekend and try not to dwell. It didn't work, but at least I had a lot of free-time to make my baby a ridiculous headband.

description

(She must have been feeling bad for me--she left it on for at least 10 minutes.)

Then I logged on this morning, and holy shit--the number of unread emails listed next to my gmail account made me think there was some kind of glitch. So many of you sent me nice messages--from fans to book bloggers offering to help, and notifications of "likes" and comments from GR. You have all just been amazing. It goes to show there really is a silver lining to everything.

As for an update, I still have no idea what's going to happen or what I'm going to do. We still haven't heard anything official yet from the Osprey people. My agent was told that the rights to Crushed would revert, but we don't have anything in writing, so we're stuck in limbo waiting for the dust to settle. We also don't know what's going to happen to Cracked. The prevailing theory is that it will be swallowed into Angry Robot, but I'm not sure what that means, and whether it will still be available in hard copy--though I guess we'll find out pretty soon, since it looks like Amazon currently has less than a dozen hard copies left. In any case, once I do know what's going to happen, I'll be sure to keep you updated.

Thanks again,

Eliza

P.S. I messed up the picture the first time (and maybe this time too, though it looks fine in the preview), so I tried to delete it and deleted someone else's post (sorry Athena(shardbearer)!)--so then I panicked and tried again and deleted another one (sorry Kit!!), so I'm going to go get some more coffee before I hurt someone.

cute.

I hope they hand over the rights as soon as possible. It's hard to just wait and see what'll happen instead of being able to do something. ALL THE LUCK Eliza!

Athena Shardbearer Its ok! I just bought the paperback just in case it gets pulled. I loved Cracked. I hope this gets resolved.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help! Also, I will post this on my book blog.

message 23: by AH (new)

AH Eliza, I loved Cracked and I have an eARC of Crushed. I'll make sure that we push the book on the blog once you have any publishing news.

message 24: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Crewe Oh, and I know a lot of you have eARCs to Crushed but haven't posted your reviews because Strange Chem asked you to hold off until right before the release. Well, there's no one left at SC to care, so post away! I know I'd love to hear what you think (And please, don't pull any punches because of all this B.S.--I'm a firm believer in honest reviews!).

message 25: by Yzabel (new)

Yzabel Ginsberg Oops. I hadn't even realised we were supposed to wait... I just wanted to post my review before the Archiving date on NetGalley. Oh, well. In any case, it's up for anyone to read.

message 26: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Madero (Boricuan Bookworms) I was waiting to review the book until the release day, but because of all this I had no idea when to do it. I'll get to it once I finish reading a few other ARCs on my list. I still can't believe this happened :/

message 27: by Coyora (new)

Coyora Dokusho Nuuuuuuuuu Strange Chemistry had such great books... and I wanna read Crushed... Keep on being awesome though, BECAUSE YOU ARE
