Movie Review:

I thought I would do something fun and give a review of the two films I watched last night. I hope to be able to do more of this in the future. There are small spoilers, so if you haven't read the books or seen the movie yet, you have been warned. Enjoy!

The Giver:

I had really high hopes for this movie. The movie portrays a future world were all memories of the past have been erased. Everyone is equal and everyone and everything is seen is in black and white. Love and affection are not allowed. Strict rules are enforced. The movie starts out with three friends who are about to partake in a graduation ceremony. During the ceremony, they are given their work assignments. One of the boys is given the task as the receiver of memories. I don't want to go into it too much more, as to not spoil it for you. Although, it was a good message that no matter how perfect you try to make a society there are still actions that are not just, it just didn't deliver for me. I felt everything happened too fast. There really wasn't a big climax and the end left me confused. I would recommend to rent this movie. I give it a 3/5 stars.

If I Stay:

Now, after reading If I Stay, I was actually more excited to see the movie. I liked the book, but I really couldn't feel the passion between Mia and Adam, until seeing them on screen. The movie was an emotional roller coaster for not only me, but everyone in the theater. I don't think there was a dry eye in that theater. The movies stays pretty close to the book, but with all movie adaptation's there are some changes. What I felt like was missing from the movie was the back story of how Kim and Mia became friends. I loved that part in the book, and felt it would have been good to see in the movie. The other thing was how her father now wore bow ties. I thought that was cute, but was not in the movie. The part where Adam gets in to see Mia was changed, but it didn't take away from the story. Be prepared to cry and be prepared to love the movie. I give it 5/5 stars. It is a must see!!!!
