WOOT! Crushed release: SEPT. 22nd!

GUYS BIG NEWS--I got back the rights to Cracked and Crushed THIS MORNING! Do you know what this means?

Operation Free Meda is a go!

The official release date will be September 22nd (I need a couple weeks to get my ducks in a row--formatting for ebooks, figuring out the covers, arranging the blog tour and whatnot). I'll be releasing an ecopy of both Cracked and Crushed (also, as a side note, Angry Robot will only be selling print copies of Cracked until December, after which they will no longer be available--so if you want one, get it soon!)

To all the bloggers who were awesome enough to offer to be part of my blog tour: first off, thanks. I love you. Seriously. Secondly, you’ll be getting an email from me soon to talk details and schedule. And lastly, I know it’s really short notice, so please, please don’t feel obligated to squish me in if you already have a full schedule. I appreciate your even offering.

In conclusion: WOO-HOOOOOO!!!

Tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell your mom:

MEDA IS COMING.

me and you both. I'm hoping Eliza will go for the print on demand route as well.

message 10: by Figgy (new)

Figgy But damned if I'm not going to buy the ebooks of both, anyway, to support in any way I can!

message 11: by Brigid (new)

Brigid and gift all of your friends with it too ;)

message 12: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Monroe I'm so happy for you! Meda is wonderful and snarky (though the two aren't words you'd usually use in the same sentence) and deserves to have her moment.

message 13: by Anid (new)

Anid Harker I have a Cracked copy from bookdepository coming my way already. It's very exciting news, all this. Especially the part where we don't have to wait for forever to get our hands on Crushed. Aw yiss.

message 14: by Cathryn (new)

Cathryn So happy for you!!! Let us know when it's up on Amazon and I will be all over that. :)

message 15: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Crewe Thanks everyone!

Re: print copies--I haven't looked into it much, but my general understanding that they're pretty easy to make, but prohibitively expensive--like $15 for a paperback. I'll take a look though and see if I can find a reasonable option.

@Brigid--I'll be in touch re: blog tour, thanks for the offer! I can use all the promo I can get.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Congrats!! I'll give a shout out when it comes out :D

message 17: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Crewe Thanks Kat!

message 18: by Figgy (new)

Figgy $15 is the price of a cheap paperback in Aus... They go up to about $25... Or as much as $35 for trade size.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

ANYTIME. You sure as hell deserve it

message 20: by Sakina (new)

Sakina Congrats Eliza!!! I am so happy for you!!! Crushed was brilliant and it's great everyone will be able to get it this September ^_^

Athena Shardbearer OMG!! I'm so excited!!!!

message 23: by Yzabel (new)

Yzabel Ginsberg Big news indeed. :)

I can't promise I'll be able to get the word out a lot (I move abroad on Sept. 23 and I suspect I'll be uber-busy in the days before), but I'll try to tell people, even if it's only after release date.

message 24: by Kristen (new)

Kristen YAY. :D Super good news!!

Khanh, first of her name, mother of bunnies So happy to hear about this, Eliza!

@Yzabel--exciting!

@Figgy & Kit--alright, you've convinced me. Once I get this formatting figured out, I'll get started on a print :).

@Lola & Anid & Pili--thanks for volunteering! I'll be in touch soon to work out details.

message 30: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Still trying to find a copy, may have to wait and see what happens.

Shandra Happy dance photo: dean happy 07-the-curious-case-of-dean-winchester-dean-happy.gif

YESSSSSSSSS!!!!! This makes me sooooo happy!!!! Please keep us posted when it's available for Kindle and/or Nook!!

message 32: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Crewe Ha, thanks! And that gif is PERFECT!

message 33: by Yzabel (new)

Yzabel Ginsberg Oh, question: will you make it available on Smashwords, too? I'm asking because I can't gift anything to other people from Amazon, B&N or Kobo—looks like that option only works if you pay with a US card. -_-

(Seriously, I've stopped counting the ebooks I wanted to offer friends, and couldn't, just because of that crap.)

message 34: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Crewe Weird! I wonder why that is. In any case, yes, I'm planning to release it through both Smashwords and kindle. I've read some things that say there's a delay with Smashwords sometimes, so it might take a few extra days.

message 35: by Yzabel (new)

Yzabel Ginsberg OK, great! :) I don't mind a few extra days, as long as the option's here.

And yes, I've wondered too. I can't buy Kindle books on Amazon.com or B&N either, it really only works with US cards. (I once set a secondary account with a false CA address cobbled up just to be able to get $0.00 ebooks... It didn't work with my French account!)

Someone told me it was about "market rights" (the book can be legally sold in one country, yet not in another). Yet I find it odd that Amazon's willing to take my dirty French money for paper copies, oh how convenient. I don't understand anything to that stuff. Ebooks are supposed to be easy to get, and too often they're not. :(

Shandra Eliza wrote: "Ha, thanks! And that gif is PERFECT!"

Sooooo perfect!!!!! Haha

message 37: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Crewe @Yzabel--ha, I should have realized that, as I should know! I sold Cracked to both Penguin India and Strange Chemistry, but they both have different territories.

As I understand it, typically an author (and their agent) prefers to sell as limited a territory as possible. This is because if you sell world-rights, the publisher then licenses their rights to other international publishers rather than your agent licensing them out. The advance tends to be higher if a publisher gets world rights, but it has a few negatives. For starters, if the author sells the rights to international publishers in different territories, then the author gets an advance for every territory they sell in--it's essentially a separate deal. If the publisher sells it, then its only an increase in the potential amount of royalties the author can earn--no advance. Secondly, the author's at the mercy of the publisher's interest in pushing her international rights--and the publishers have a lot of titles competing for their attention. My agent has a much smaller catalog and, generally, a much more personal stake in my success. Plus I can fire my agent--I'm stuck with my publisher! In my case, Strange Chemistry had world rights minus India, so it was available everywhere. Some authors though, may have only sold North American rights (for example) and are still working to find international publishers.

I have no idea why you can buy paper copies though. Do you have to put in a domestic shipping address?

message 38: by Yzabel (new)

Yzabel Ginsberg Yeah, the world rights thing makes sense. I just don't understand why it seems to apply only to ebooks.

The few tims I bought paper copies from Amazon.com, there was no problem. And when I order the same books (published in the USA, in the UK, etc.) through Amazon.fr, there's no problem either.

It's just so weird.

message 39: by Alyn (new)

Alyn OHMYGOSH I'm so excited!!!!!! I can't wait until Sepetember 22! Does this mean Crushed will be available in all bookstores? (Like Barnes&Noble, ect.)

message 40: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Adelynne wrote: "OHMYGOSH I'm so excited!!!!!! I can't wait until Sepetember 22! Does this mean Crushed will be available in all bookstores? (Like Barnes&Noble, ect.)"

This is what I'm looking to know also :)

message 41: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Crewe @Adelynne & Danielle, Unfortunately, I don't think a print copy will ever be available in a store :(. For what it's worth, I do think the major POD companies will distribute through the major retailers' websites. As in, Crushed wouldn't be in the physical store, but you could order a print copy through the B&N site. Crappy, I know, but without a publisher I won't have print distribution :-/.

And Adelynne, I just saw you'd asked a question before (along with someone else--yikes!) and I'm sorry I didn't answer it sooner. Those questions show up really low on the author dashboard, and I didn't even see it. I only noticed it now because I got an notification about this comment so your name in the question section caught my eye!

Alyn Eliza wrote: "@Adelynne & Danielle, Unfortunately, I don't think a print copy will ever be available in a store :(. For what it's worth, I do think the major POD companies will distribute through the major retai..."

Yay! It sucks that I won't be able to buy it at Barnes&Noble but I'm glad I can order it! :D Thank you for answering! (But for some reason Barnes&Noble says a copy is not available??)

message 43: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Crewe Ah, they're talking about the SC version, which has a different ISBN. Hopefully once I release mine it will show up. It will be a few weeks after the e-release on the 22nd though, though, because I'll have to figure out platforms and formatting for a print edition.

message 44: by Emilie (new)

Emilie If a print edition of Crushed will be available through the B&N site, do you think this means that it'll be possible to buy a print copy through Amazon even if I live in Europe? :)

message 45: by Anid (new)

Anid Harker @Emilie if it's on B&N it'll likely be on Bookdepository (or somewhere that ships worldwide, not that I've checked whether B&N do or not). But really, free worldwide shipping, Bookdepository are like my Holy Grail bookstore. They don't pay me to say that but they probably should.

message 46: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Just going to sit here and wait for the new ISBN

message 47: by Figgy (last edited Sep 13, 2014 03:56PM) (new)

Figgy B&N do ship internationally, but their shipping fees are insane!

Much better to go through Amazon(who do have a UK store) or Book Depository. Not that I'm their biggest fan at the moment.

message 48: by Coyora (new)

Coyora Dokusho Awe.some. I'm glad I've been checking back periodically!!

Sept 22... I can survive that long...

message 49: by Emilie (new)

Emilie @Anid Thank you for answering - after reading about the whole Amazon case lately, I'll actually feel better about buying off of Bookdepository (even though Amazon is still cheaper, sigh)
