The Forest
I was walking through the woods the other day and found myself standing under a tree, looking up into the sky. I wasn't looking at anything in particular, I was listening to the sounds around me.
It's amazing what you hear when you let your mind go and allow the world around you to dissolve into your mind and body. You can hear the smallest of creatures and the things from miles away.
I stood there, the wind causing the leaves to make a soft wrestling sound, my eyes to the sky. The gray limbs twisted up and out like fingers pointing at something out of the way, but I didn't know what. I didn't care. I was lost in the calmness and the serenity of the world.
For a few moments or heart beats, I don't know how long, I stood there, listening and waiting. Waiting for nature to take away my frustration and my mental discomfort. When I feel as if I'm going to scream, I walk out my back door and into the forest. I walk until the house is no where to be seen and I close my eyes, take a deep breath and relax.
I can be having the worst day of my life and thirty minutes in the woods can take it all away. And I love that about nature. It doesn't judge me for being mad or upset at my family or the world, it just helps me get over it. I couldn't ask for a better friend.
If you live around a patch of woods or a national forest, I suggest, if you are having a bad day, surround yourself with nature and give yourself to it. It will help you through your day.
