The Tingui seek power above all else. There are many ways that they accomplish this but little is known about their current activities in the present day because they have learned that hiding their influence is more practical. If they do it out in the open then their influence is obvious and forces will combine against them to fight (hello, Hitler?!). If they do them in secret, how do they know what or who to even fight against?
That is why the Seeker is so essential. A Seeker’s main responsibility is to stop the Tingui. If the Tingui can affect the past, how else can they be stopped? Since a Seeker can find the Tingui in the past, they are the only option for stopping them there. Currently there is only one other Seeker and there are... let’s say,
problems with him.
A Seeker can travel through time and space. One of the benefits to this is that they can travel through space at will. They can use this ability to travel the world and visit friends, family and any place they desire, for as long as they want.
Of course, the major down side to this is that they are yanked unwillingly, no matter what else is going on, by their power when the Tingui decide to take action. Then, when they get there, they are expected to find the Tingui and stop their plans, and if possible, take them out.
In Tristen’s case, he must be able to do all this with little training or knowledge of what’s going on. He was kept in the dark about everything in order to keep him safe. Now that he has come into his power, or as Mr. Becker calls it, his ‘gift’, he must learn quickly and be able to stop the Tingui’s plans, or else be killed.
The anti-hero to Tristen is the mysterious strutting blond who shows up in France and tries to kill Tristen. It is his responsibility to carry out the plans of the Tingui in the past, as well as try to locate Tristen and give him a dirt nap. Tristen will get to know him much better on his adventures, as they are opposites in the good versus evil in this world.
