Direction

We all find ourselves moving through life. But even when we feel stuck and inert we are still in some sort of motion. I am not sure if this is a consolation or a burden, but either way, every day of our lives we wake up (or never fall asleep at all) and our minds and bodies begin to move in their own mysterious ways. Do we assign meaning to our movements in order to help us find a path? Or do we search for a path that gives meaning to our movements? Either way, without meaning or direction our movements feel feeble and futile. So those of us who want to know a little more about life search for a path and meaning. Where and how we search for those answers can provide valuable insight into what we really want and what we really value in our lives. Also, the search itself is an answer to an important question: what are we doing with this life? The search reveals to us an inherent desire for something tangible. We want to feel and know something permanent and true . . . something that cannot be lost or forgotten. The search shows us that no matter what we want, think or feel, we are still moving toward something. Hopefully, that something is beautiful like love, peace and/or just a simple personal truth that no one can take from you. But the time to leave a legacy is now. We have a chance to build something during this life so that, hopefully, our impact survives beyond the brief time we are allotted here. So choose carefully the who, what, when, where and why of your search. There is a fine line between the passing and the permanent. As we begin our new year, I send my best wishes for direction and meaning to your movement.
