On Jan. 25, several Christian churches celebrate the conversion of St. Paul the Apostle.
This story involves the transformation of Saul, who is traveling the road to Damascus. There he is struck blind, healed, and converted, whereupon he becomes the Apostle Paul.
This tale explains the popular phrase "the road to Damascus."
Whatever one's faith, the story can be read as a journey from smug self-deception to insight.
My book "Dancing with a Baptist" attempts to portray a similar journey, though not specifically a Christian one.
As the new year begins, may we all learn from the roads that we travel.
Safe journeying.
