Blogging 50: Chapters 3-7
1. Ana’s subconscious is its own character. And she’s an intrusive, wildly unpredictable little bitch. Reminds me of Tinkerbell.
2. Every time Grey commands Ana to “come” my mind goes directly to the dirty use of that word, which I think is a commentary on our times. Because pre-50-Shades, it would have never occurred to me.
3. Cannot believe she drunk-dialed.
4. Phlegmatically…NICE word!!!
6. I’m gonna say I’m not a share-someone’s-toothbrush kind of person. That didn’t do a thing for me. Definitely not my kink.
7. I like this line: “I am retrospectively frustrated.” I’ve TOTALLY been retrospectively frustrated before. Like the other day at the pool, this old lady yelled at my kid, and I politely went to her and said, “Is something wrong?” And she said, “It’s against the rules for him to jump in like that.” And I said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t know. He won’t do it again.” Then she left. But like, two days later, I got to thinking, that old bat had no business yelling at my kid–nobody should be talking to my kid! She should have approached me. And now I’m super retrospectively frustrated.
8. “It’s not a room–it’s a mission statement.” Fantastic line.
9. Ahhh, at last. The red room. This is one of those moments where I can’t get the full experience because I already know in general what it looks like. Still, I thought the author did a great job of taking you away from the cold, controlled environment in the apartment and into this deeply sensual space. All the “implements” are daunting. I liked Ana’s response. Shock. And then she asked if he did this to people or if people did this to him, which I thought was a surprisingly lucid question. Then leaving the room and back into the rest of the apartment was another well-done setting transition. I felt chilled just leaving the warmth of the red room.
Still reading. The elevator kiss was, of course, hot. I’m curious about Grey’s obsession with cleaning your plate…that’s an interesting quirk. I like Elliot. I’m not sure a sex contract is admissible in court, but I’m not stressed out about it enough to look it up.
And beyond all that, I’m wondering…
