I thought I’d give everyone a sneak peek at my next Fallen book, New York. Christian Vosberg is one of the most powerful Enforcers in the country. An Enforcer is a fallen angel whom God has tasked with the job of keeping the unrepentants (or fallen angels who haven’t asked for forgiveness) under control. But Christian’s been dancing along the edge of the abyss for a while now, and it wouldn’t take a lot to push him over the edge where he’ll become one of the very creatures he hates. If you read Fallen: Chicago when it comes out in December, you’ll meet Christian. :)  I have three guys in this series that I love. Mika’il (the archangel), Christian, and Lucifer. Now each of them gets their own book…and I’m sure you’re not going to like Lucifer much until you get to his story. But I hope to redeem him in the end.

All right now…here’s a little excerpt of some interaction between Christian and Lucifer.

Fallen: New York copyright 2013 T.A. Chase

Excerpt:

Christian stood between Joan and Lucifer, his hands clenched tight as he glared at the fallen.

“Did you do it?” He had to ask, even if the answer might destroy him.

“What it are you referring to? There are an infinite numbers of its I could have done.” Daystar’s eyes flashed acknowledgement, and Christian was pretty sure he knew exactly what Christian was talking about.

“The Towers? Did you cause that?”

Lucifer looked off towards the empty skyline where the towers had once stood. “Some would believe I caused it. Others chose to believe they did for their god.”

“That’s bull shit. There’s only one higher being, and whether you call Him God, Allah, or any other name, He doesn’t want people to die in His name.” He took a step closer to Lucifer. “Tell me the truth, if you’re capable of doing that anymore.”

Emotion flitted over Lucifer’s face, but it was too quick for Christian to tell what it was.

“Why should I bother? You’ll believe what you want, no matter my words. Do you think I had anything to do with it?”

“Yes, I think you stood there and gloated. You’ve encouraged the evil these mortals do to each other. You’ve done it since Adam and Eve were in the garden, and you convinced her to eat the apple.”

Lucifer lifter his hand in protest. “Now you’re buying into their own propaganda, Christian. I wasn’t there, and I’ll keep saying that until my last breath. Why should I get the blame because Eve couldn’t keep her greedy hands off a stupid apple? They used me as a scapegoat for their own disobedience.”

Christian grabbed Lucifer by the lapels before dragging the fallen an inch from him. “You’ve caused all the evil in this world with your arrogance and indifference. Why do you care that they lie about you? Why did you fall, Lucifer? What made you hate God so much you rebelled against Him?”

Two of the most powerful fallen angels stared at each other. Dark blue battled with endless black. Joan shifted slightly, and Lucifer’s gaze shot over to her. Despair burned in those dark eyes, even more shattered desperation than she ever saw in Christian’s.

“Ask him why he chose to fall? Is he truly angry at me or does he explode outwards to ease his own pain?” Lucifer spoke to her, ignoring the curses coming from Christian. Then he turned back to look at Christian.

Shock raced through Joan, and it was mirrored on Christian’s face when Lucifer kissed him on the cheek.

“I take the blame for many things mortals do to each other, but why should I quietly accept it when it brings the hatred of someone I used to call friend?”

In a blink, Lucifer was gone.

“Damn, I hate when he won’t stick around to defend himself,” Christian muttered.

Joan wasn’t sure why she said what she said next, but the words slipped out. “Maybe he doesn’t see the point of defending himself when you’ll never give him the benefit of the doubt. You’ve judged him guilty already, Christian. Lucifer doesn’t strike me as the type to constantly hit his head against a brick wall.”

Christian glared at her, his eyes gleaming. “You’re defending him now?”

“I’m not saying he hasn’t done terrible things since he was banished. What I’m saying is Lucifer knows what you think of him and how you feel. Changing your mind is useless to him”
