Cursed by darkness. Followed by evil. Sometimes perfection is not what it seems.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live for centuries? Is true love immortal? Would perfect beauty or uncharted powers make everlasting life without those you love worthwhile? What if evil stalked your every move? And what about the never-ceasing, all-consuming desire for blood?

“Forever Midnight” is a story that unfolds gradually. Mallory O’Neill seems like a pretty normal college student, but one dark night in December, she’s stalked by something powerfully evil. In terror she utters a prayer, only to have a mysteriously beautiful young man comes to her rescue. Is he an angel or a demon? Or something else? Who or what is this young man? And why has he chosen Mallory?

The answers to the questions I’ve posed are answered throughout the novel. And though the story is very much a love story, it is definitely the unnamed (until Chapter Three) young man’s story. It is also the story of the age-old struggle between good and evil with the main characters caught in the midst of the upheaval.

In my next posts, I’ll talk a little more about the story, its background, and what’s next. But for now, here’s a little of what Mallory sees when she meets the mysterious supernatural stranger for the first time:

“…….Something dark and sinister was lurking beside her. Its stench was foul, like decaying flesh.
'H-e-l-p, help me, please,’ she stammered.
As if in answer to her prayer, the air sparked with electricity which quickly changed to ghostly silver light. Mallory froze in place, squinting, trying to make sense of what she was seeing. As she watched, the unusual glow quickly dimmed until only a glittering mist remained. Clearly visible within the haze was a man.
Her eyes widened. He was moving…coming… closer…….
....The air seemed to rush from her lungs. She couldn’t scream. In silence, she stared, unable to move. It had only been a moment and yet with unhurried, gentle grace he stood before her. Shielding her with his body. Protecting her. Chills rippled down her spine when she glanced at him…… Like a shadow he was clothed in black. His hair was long and tousled, framing features which were somehow perfect. He was beautiful…….”
