AUTHOR TALK INTERVIEW SESSION – Erin Pearson

October 15, 2015                      IMG_0880

‘Author Talk Interview Session’ was created to promote fellow authors and their work.  The interview questions will spotlight the guest writer, show them love, peace, and respect by allowing them to tell you about their books, other projects and plans to promote.  It is also designed to give an author who reads the blog interview posted, insights on how they can grow and share in this huge literary field.   This blog interviews will be posted on Facebook, GoodReads, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google, Twitter, and NetworkedBlogs.

RAVEN’S MISSION STATEMENT: I firmly believe God’s way of doing business is the best method.  When we join hands with each other it not only helps us learn and grow it creates bonds between fellow authors.   As team players, we will learn to share instead of competing, grasping and grabbing for recognition and financial gain.

GUEST:

Today’s guest is Erin Pearson.  She and I became friends through Facebook.  This young woman is a joy to be connected too and I have enjoyed our talks immensely.  Erin is a new author and I had the pleasure of reading her book before publication.  After she had the book published she agreed to let me interview her for this blog I know you will enjoy her answers.

AUTHOR BIO:

Hailing from Nebraska, E.L. Pearson is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Kearney where she honed her writing talents and fed her desire for enchantment through studying classic literature. Her one-of-a-kind writing style reflects this love in her upcoming Prodigal Lost series. Her mission is to encourage and uplift those in perpetual darkness. As her relationship with God has grown, so have her blessings which include a patient husband who is kind and strong, and twin sons who remind her just how much God loves her. Together, they do life together in Kearney Nebraska.

Erin Pearson’s (copy/pasted) questionnaire answers:

What genre do you write?

I write Christian Fiction. I actually struggle with this a little bit, since I feel torn between a few different genres. I’ve been told it’s Christian Speculative Fiction, even Science Fiction…and right now I think I’ve settled on Christian Fantasy. But really, to a person who believes in the existence of angels, I write about fictional characters of a real race.

What inspired you to write?

I was inspired to write from a very early age, especially as I read the “choose your own ending” books in middle school. I remember being so disappointed that there weren’t more possible endings, and as I read through all of the pages, not just what I chose after each chapter, I became fascinated with how stories developed. So, I wrote my first short story in middle school about a prince named Caspian and a purple dragon.

What have you written?

Other than Prodigal Lost: Oasis of the Fallen, I have several other pieces in the works. Of course, there’s Prodigal Lost book 2 :) and I am also working on another novel set in the Sandhills of Nebraska. And just to shake things up, I am inching toward publication of a non-fiction devotional book for parents of preemies.

How many books do you have published?

Prodigal Lost is my first book, but I plan to publish many more!

Who is your publisher?

Flagship Fiction, an imprint of CGI Publishing.

What are you promoting at the moment?

The highly requested paperback version of Prodigal Lost book 1 is slated for a fall release. So stay tuned to my website (to be live in a few weeks) for further information!

Do you enjoy meeting people and promoting your work?

I love being approached by people who have bought and read my book. I haven’t had a lot of experience with it yet, but from what I have seen, I love it! It’s truly a blessing to see their excitement and to hear that they’re enjoying what I worked so hard on. The latest person started the conversation by saying he didn’t appreciate being confused, which had me worried. But then, he spoke about how he enjoyed how my book jumps between points of view and times in history. He doesn’t want to put it down, not only because he says I’ve written it well, he just doesn’t want to lose his place! Promoting my work has been a challenge for me. Since I am in charge of all the marketing and PR for the book, the task has been daunting. I have always considered myself a bit on the introverted side, and definitely not someone who would just walk up to people and tell them I’ve written a book. But, I’ve done that! Strangers have received my business card with the title of my book, and with “Author” listed after my name. It’s honestly, very surreal, and a dream come true. It’s hard work, there’s no question about that, but I appreciate the fact that I’m out there because I was given a story to tell, and I’m doing everything I humanly can to make it a reality.

Would you travel and do speaking engagements to promote your book(s)?

Absolutely! I would love to have the chance to promote my work in other places and actually have secured a few relationships for the devotional book upon its completion. I have had a lot of experience in front of large groups and look forward to expanding my experience, and my message, to many others.

List some places you would like to visit and meet fans?

Well, until recently, New Orleans was just a dream. I researched so much as I wrote Prodigal Lost that I fell in love with the city. I then had the opportunity present itself at my work to travel to the very city that I had been appreciating from afar. If I had the opportunity again, I would love to spend more time there, and really dig into the culture that is there and talk with the people that I started to understand in my quick trip down there. I’m a Midwest girl, and I am pretty well traveled to the states that border Nebraska. I would love any opportunities that would be within the US, especially those rich in our nation’s history. If there’s a story, I want to be there and live it!

Tell us your successful methods of promoting?

The first thing I know has helped is to reach out to others with the same interests. Churches, and especially book clubs within church groups, are a huge asset to a local reader. Not only will it be a group for reading, reviews, and possible promotion, but also a support for asking questions, getting advice and asking for help. Other pieces I’ve discovered are an author page on Facebook. It’s amazing what a small dollar amount will do with the right type of targeting to get your book’s link and description out there for more people to find. Pinterest is another channel I hope to dive into a little further too, as well as Twitter.

Are you planning to write more books?

Many, many more! As many as I am inspired with. I have told stories for as long as I can remember. My children and I actually play a game sometimes when we can’t go to sleep or if a storm is keeping us awake and hiding in the basement. We tag-team story build. I’ll start with a phrase, and we take turns adding a sentence to the story, and soon we have built an alternate universe of purple fluffy bunnies who drive monster trucks. I love exercising their imaginations, at the same time as mine!

Where can we purchase your work?

My work is exclusively on amazon.com right now. But as my fan base grows and the paperback versions are created, I plan to expand quickly into more platforms.

In what formats can we purchase your book(s)? (ex. a. paperback b. E-book  c. audio)

Currently, it is only digital, with the paperback quickly on its heels. I’m aiming for a late September early October release! Stay tuned!

How can we keep up with your journey?

Follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. I am also in the process of getting an author website up and running, complete with blog, that should be ready by the paperback release as well.

Is there a way for fans to ask you questions?

Absolutely! Write to my Facebook page, or email me at my website. I would absolutely love to connect!

Fun question:

If your book gets chosen for a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?

This is a funny question! :) A friend of mine at work, who has been with me on this journey for nearly the entire time, has joked with me about this since she first heard about the book. It’s a bit up in the air right now, but Mason would be well-played by Shawn Ashmore or Kellen Lutz. Mac in my mind is Liev Schreiber. I would love Eva Green to play Oasis!
