Ever since I published Veiled Shadows, the last book in the Shadows trilogy, I’ve had readers ask about what was next. They wanted MORE. That’s really been a resounding theme over the years.

The thing was that, for me, Ellie and David’s story was done. They had overcome their past demons (literally), defeated the bad guys, and were ready to embark on their new beginning. Surely these two characters, who had been through purgatory and hell, deserved to live out the rest of their lives in peace. I closed the book on the Shadows story back in 2012 and was content with that decision.

For three years anyway.

Recently, I’ve felt the itch that told me perhaps the book wasn’t quite as closed on this world as I thought. But to go back into it, it had to be a story idea that would take things in a new, fresh direction. It couldn’t (and shouldn’t IMO) be a continuation of where Ellie and David had just been. The darkness and shadows had been thoroughly pummeled and beat. That wasn’t something that could be come back from easily. It would take time. A lot of time.

That was when it hit me. The continuation of the story wasn’t with Ellie and David, but instead, with their child.

And so the itch became an idea that grew into the outline of an entirely new story. This story is Morgan Mitchell’s- Ellie and David’s 19-year-old daughter. But a Shadows story wouldn’t be a Shadows story without a strong nod to where Ellie and David’s story began- the haunted Bradford mansion. The house has center stage once again, and Morgan will be entranced by it just like her parents before her. Needless to say, that isn’t a good thing for Morgan at all…
