After passing Mono Lake, William could have traveled 3 hrs. in literally any direction, & ended up anywhere! The only known ghost town in that area is Bodie, north of the lake in Mono County. All we know is he traveled a thousand miles from Denver, & Fortune was 15 mi. off whatever highway he was on. (Not Humboldt though, that's on the west coast nowhere near the lake.)(less)
