Cecily Yes, all his books are connected to a greater or lesser extent. Spotting the links can be part of the fun. Although The Bone Clocks is the second of the Marinus trilogy (the first is The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet), it doesn't really matter what order you read his books: the connections are more of a web than a line.

Konna The books of David Mitchell doesn't connect in a sense that one book is a spin-off of the other. They rather create a common cosmos where all the stories take place, and some characters cross paths with those of the other books. It's a mistake to start reading Mitchell's novels with this in mind.
