Sophia Our members enjoy getting social among the book stacks and in the virtual libraries at each challenge level. Sometimes members have trouble finding these conversation threads and participating.

Here is our own virtual social space in the group where you can update members on life events, encourage through happy and sad times, and check in with one another about real life.

This is optional and members are by no means obligated. Share what you are comfortable with.

Thank you, Marlene, for suggesting both topic and topic title. :)

Sam H. Has anyone heard from or seen anything from Shifra? She isn't in this group but she is friends with a few of us.

I think she lives in CA, just not sure where. I sent her a message, but haven't heard back from her.

That is worrisome! I hope she contacts you.

MichelleH H I am (hat in hand) announcing that I joined the group this year just to keep in touch with the members here and seeing what you all are reading. After joining last year (a year my husband and I agree we'd like a 'do-over' for,) I stopped listing my reads on the appropriate levels. I struggled to keep my own records and quit after I got to 100 + books. 2024 was a challenge, and I read and listened to escape. We're okay, better than okay compared to other folks. Life happens.

I still love and read JAFF almost exclusively, and also really admire the members of this group. God bless Y'all.

Sam H. Sending you hugs, Michelle.

Life does tend to make us feel its a monster roller-coaster!

I'm so glad our group gives you a cozy place to hang out. No worries if you have to downscale. Just enjoy your books and book friends. :)

Katja Do you get scammer messages on fanfiction?
I never used to get any DM's there, or, like one every three years or so, but now there's several every week and usually they're from someone with stilted grammar, claiming to be "a concept artist", offering their services, and they always want me to contact them on some other platform.

I mean I suppose some of them could be real artists. But I doubt it. I went through the profile of one of them and he/she/they had left several adoring reviews on so many stories in so many different genres that had been published so recently that they certainly could not have had the time to read them all, like they claimed.

message 8: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew I have seen something similar in a comment to an author's FB posting.

Someone wants paid for promoting, editing, whatevering.

Sam H. I can't find the thread where this was originally posted but I have a question for - Sarah?

https://www.amazon.com/Pemberley-Beyo...

I can't tell if there is a difference between the two aside from the color of the cover?

Linda Sam wrote: "I can't find the thread where this was originally posted but I have a question for - Sarah?

From what I can tell, they are the same, except the one with the blue cover says it is 216 pages and the green cover says 214. They also have different publication dates.

The blue one is also available in KU unlike the green one.

message 11: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew The Green Cover is Hardcover and Paperback.
The Blue Cover includes Kindle.

I read it -- it's actually pretty good!

Sam H. Another - anyone heard...

Sydney Saliers usually posts on FF, but she hasn't been around for a while. Is anyone friendly with her? Just hoping she's ok.

Speaking of FF, RoniAllen is back with a new story!

message 14: by Sam (new)

Sam H. So... My Dad has been doing a bunch of medical tests over the past months. They wouldn't tell me much, ultrasound, mri, biopsy... I thought they were checking his thyroid.

Today he finally reveals, (don't ask me why he needed to keep it so secret) cancer-in his throat.

Thank goodness its small and with radiation the prognosis is good.
I can't really wrap my head around it, and all I keep thinking is, my poor Mom. She didn't even tell her sister. that is a horrible burden to carry, with no mental or emotional support.

message 15: by Elin (new)

Elin Eriksen I am so sorry to hear it, Sam.

CindySR Sam wrote: " cancer-in his throat.

Sorry to hear this Sam!

My Dad also had cancer in his throat and had radiation. It went away but his saliva glands were fried and his mouth went dry a lot.

My Dad was bad about health care and did not have yearly check-ups to make sure no cancer came back. Several years later he died of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Make sure your Dad keeps up with his health checks and best wishes to your family.

Liz H I'm so sorry to hear this Sam.

Sometimes it's hardest to share the truly awful things, those that frighten us the most.

My aunt also had throat cancer and went on to live a long and happy life after treatment.

message 18: by Craftyhj (new)

Craftyhj Men are really not the best at sharing things on the whole - and definitely not with his little girl!

I do hope the treatment goes well and that you are able to keep both of your parents well topped up with their books to keep them amused.

Best wishes to you all.

wosedwew It is always too soon to give up hope. – Norman Vincent Peale

I know you will be a support to your parents now and always.
I hope his treatment helps and good health returns.

message 20: by Christina (new)

Christina Morland So sorry to hear this news, Sam, but I'm glad the prognosis is good! Sending you and yours good thoughts and hope!

message 21: by Sam (new)

Sam H. Aww... you guys are amazing! Thank you so much!!

Your encouraging words mean so much. We will have more information about his treatment next week. It will be a tough 6 weeks, but we are all very hopeful.

message 22: by Lenora (new)

Lenora Robinson So sorry Sam. Hugs and prayers for your family.

message 23: by Katja (new)

Katja Hope everything goes as smoothly as possible for your dad, and everyone in the family

message 24: by Kirk (new)

Kirk Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

message 25: by Sophia (new)

Sophia Add my well wishes, too, Sam! My parents tend to keep things like this from me, too. They don't seem to get that I'd rather know.

Hugs, lady!

message 26: by Sam (new)

Sam H. The shock of not know and G-d forbid something really goes wrong? OMG I can't even imagine.

This week we get his schedule for radiation.

Hugs everyone <3

Sam H. For the first time in ages, a review of mine has been denied. Attempting to repost it. (this time without the sentence about arc/review etc...

Now I wait.

It's so weird. Their guidelines are, you have to write the little caveat. but then they penalize your review for writing it!

Sam H. Amazon review

message 30: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett I just found this thread. Gosh, I had a love-hate relationship with all the posting in the past, but now that I don't get any, I miss them. Sam, I will be adding your father to my prayer list.

Last year, I had the best topic for my YTD reading list 'Books I scored in 2024'. Yeah, like that worked out. Then, my computer ate my document listing what I had read. It took several months before I was able to retrieve it.

I became inundated with RL issues and hadn't posted for several months. I finally gave up. I tried, but I didn't make my reading level. I thought I'd do better this year, but, as yet, I have not posted my first level. Good grief. LOL! I'll get there one of these days, and then you will be inundated with my posts. So, hang on.

Blessings, to everyone who is experiencing problems, whether with immediate family or the elder generation.

message 31: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett A note on those Amazon reviews. If the AI likes my review, it will post within 7 minutes. I am not kidding. If not, it can take up to 3 days or longer. I figured it was passed to a human to scan for offensive content or something the AI didn't understand. I have learned to post a short review on Big Brother and something else on Goodreads. I finally gave up fighting the AI/Bot. After it deleted all my reviews in 2023, I am now very cautious.

message 32: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew I don't accept as many ARCs as I once did, but I have stopped including the disclaimer in my review.

The Amazon Guidelines actually do not mention putting in any disclaimer.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...

This is the closest I could find that mentions ARCs:
It’s OK to review a free or discounted book (advanced reader copy) that you received from an author or publisher. However, they can’t require a review in exchange or try to influence the review.

I am having the same experience posting reviews as Jeanne: either something is accepted in a few minutes or it takes days.

Sam, what review of yours was rejected?

message 33: by Sam (last edited Mar 27, 2025 12:20PM) (new)

Sam H. It was for More Than You Know.
I edited it a tad and removed that disclaimer and resubmitted it. That's when it got approved within minutes.

Jeanne, I agree. I try to keep my reviews as short as possible, while giving a bit of tease and my takeaway.

On the other hand, my review for Follow the Drum, which took longer to be approved, but was in the end, also had this line - I received a free copy for my honest opinion.
I was positive I'd have to try and repost it.

So. Weird!

Too bad about RL giving you a kick in the pants lately. Glad you could stop by for a bit and visit with us, Jeanne! :)

J. W. Garrett Love you guys. 💖💘

message 38: by Liz H (new)

Liz H I'm taking a break from KU, in an effort to catch up on the books I've purchased or got for free. I'm amazed at just how much JAFF I own. I've read most, but there are still quite a few that look to be very good. I'm scrolling through my content library on Amazon and logging on goodreads any that aren't here, so you may see a lot of want-to-read titles pop up from me.

Liz H Reading this today, I immediately thought of an Austen character who fits the description perfectly, then thought of a second. Who comes to mind for you?

The woman Folly is loud; she is undisciplined and without knowledge. Proverbs 9:13

Lydia perhaps?

Sam H. Mrs. Bennet?

Interestingly, when asked Lucy Worsley said her favourite Austen character was Emma ...
