message 1: by Irma (new)

Irma I enjoyed one of Maeve Binchy’s books many years ago. I have to read some more of hers.

message 2: by Laura (new)

Laura Yes - "women's fiction" was always looked down upon and classed as low-brow - because it was concerned with family, relationships, children, and women's work. How wrong!

message 3: by Antoinette (new)

Antoinette Glad you enjoyed these stories, Diane. I read many of her books way back but really have the urge to revisit them.

message 4: by Mark (new)

Mark Porton "Appeals to women"?? Diane - tell me more. Great review my friend and I'm glad you enjoyed it! 🤗🦘🎈

message 5: by Angela M (new)

Angela M I have not read her for the same reason, Diane, might have to give her a try now.

message 6: by TracyGH (new)

TracyGH I love Maeve. Discovered her in my late 20s (many moons ago!) and I am still drawn to her books. She is like a warm cuppa tea for me! ☘️

message 7: by Diane (new)

Diane Barnes Laura, you're right Laura. Women's issues aren't considered important enough to be literature.

message 8: by Diane (new)

Diane Barnes Antoinette, revisiting her at this point might be a good thing.
Angela, I do think you would enjoy her.

message 9: by Diane (new)

Diane Barnes Thanks Mark. Actually, some of the "good guys" in these stories were men.

"Copied and pasted" for possible future use, Diane.

message 11: by Debbie (new)

Debbie I love short stories, and I’m adding this collection. I had the same idea about Binchy. Glad it’s not true! Terrific review!

message 12: by Pedro (new)

Pedro Great! She was quite prolific, wasn’t she? 😉

message 13: by Diane (new)

Diane Barnes Debbie, she simply knows how to tell a great story.

message 14: by Diane (new)

Diane Barnes Pedro, fortunately for her fans, she was!

message 15: by Pedro (new)

Pedro That’s you sorted for a while then! 😁

message 16: by Sara (new)

Sara I always loved her. Some people know how to capture a slice of life, and she was one of them. Glad you got to her, Diane.

message 17: by Diane (new)

Diane Barnes Me too Sara, especially since I now have so many to read.

message 18: by K (new)

K I have overlooked her works for the very same reason as you, Diane. I love a solid short story collection, especially from an author I haven't read yet. Thank you for bringing this one to my attention.

message 19: by Diane (new)

Diane Barnes I hope you like them too K.
