The ship's name, Speroancora in Italian means "I still hope". I hope this does not disappoint you, for the rest, the Cunabula for example, that seems to derive from incunabula which were the first mobile characters for printing, if I remember and without going to Wikipedia,

Wow! That is amazing! It didn't even occur to me to see if these were actual words. I thought I was making them up! I often google the words I make up, to insure that they aren't already in use in Science Fiction, but it never occurred to me to put them into google translate to see if they were words in another language.
