May I recommend a book to you? I enjoyed Anita Diamant's Day After Night. I've read that several times as well. It takes place in a camp in Palestine for Holocaust survivors who have not yet been granted the privilege of fully emigrating to Palestine in one of the Kibbutz. Unfortunately for those inside the camp, it's surrounded with barbed wire.
