[close] This is a book club for Jewish and non-Jewish hot girls (who is a girl is open to self-definition and interpretation) alike who want to read one Jewish book per month. Jewish books include books by and about Jewish people, as well as Jewish themes, religion, peoplehood, politics, and history.

[close] A space for thoughtful discussion on theology and its relationship to meaning, morality, human psychology, and society. This group welcomes diverse traditions, philosophical inquiry, and reflective dialogue about sacred texts, inner life, ethical questions, and the role of religion in the modern world. The goal is not preaching or debate for victory, but understanding, exploration, and respectful exchange of ideas. Remember that respect comes first. Disagree with ideas, not with people. No insults, ridicule, or hostility toward beliefs or non-belief. Feel free to share perspectives, interpretations, and experiences, but this is a discussion space, not a place to persuade others to adopt a faith, so basically no preaching or conversion attempts. Stay thoughtful and on topic, posts should relate to theology, meaning, morality, sacred texts, psychology of belief, or religion in society. Interpretations are welcome, claims of absolute authority are not. All comments and conversations must be in English. Don’t hesitate to open a topic under any theme that has already been featured. If you’re unsure where your topic belongs, you’re welcome to ask in the open discussion under the thread titled “Topic Creation”.

[close] Welcome Chicagoland Jewish Parents to the Jewish Parent Book Club! This is the Book Club for the very busy Jewish parent located in the Chicago and Chicagoland area. This book club is partnering with Bookie's an independent book shop in the Beverly neighborhood in Chicago. They have graciously offered a 10% discount so books can be purchased directly through them! Details: A bit unorthodox, we only read 4 books for the year. Unheard of? We know! Life gets busy and things move fast when raising kiddos. This book club is made for the busy parent that can't fly through a book every month! Commit to only 1 book per quarter. Basically you have under 3 months to get through each book. Book 1 (Jan.-March)/Book 2 (April-June)/Book 3 (July-Sept.)/Book 4 (Oct.-Dec.) All 4 books will be on the topic of Jewish Parenting. These books will provide guidance & perspective. Do not feel obligated to join each quarter as each book choice may not jive with you and you can always wait for the next book. Why does parenting matter in Judaism? The Talmud teaches that a parent is obligated to instruct their child in the following three areas of life: 1) A belief and value system to help them navigate the complexities of life; 2) a trade, to ensure their financial independence; and 3) basic survival skills—an example of which is swimming. Meetings occur every 3 months over Zoom. Stay in the comfort of your own home! Please utilize the discussion portion of the Goodreads site to add discussion topics.
