Some of these may be non-fiction books.

maybe this list should be narrowed, yes? jews in american literature? jews in english-language literature? representations of judaism in american literature?
I think the list description you gave ("Novels about Jews") is actually as precise as need be -- this seems more like another case of people not actually paying attention to what a list is supposed to be about. (Besides, it strikes me that something like "Jews in American/British literature" would be even more of an invitation to include nonfiction -- if nonfiction it is that you want to exclude first and foremost ...)Suggestion: Stick with the description that's in place and just get rid of the books that clearly are nonfiction?
wait, *i* started this list!!!!!!!! i had totally forgotten! seriously, when i wrote the comment about narrowing the target, i thought i was giving a suggestion to someone else! well, my powers concerning removal of books are zero, so i guess the list stays what it is.
There are several librarians who have contributed to this list (and we are allowed to remove books) -- if there are any books you would like to see deleted, just say the word.
oh, themis-athena, i don't want to have this power over people. there are non-fiction books and there are also collections of stories -- some folk tales. but if people want them there... feel free to tidy up, though, if you want to! not on my initiative, though, i'm too wimpy for that! :) thank you for offering though!
Removed the Diary of Anne Frank. Is To Kill a Mockingbird a novel about Jews? I'll admit it's been 2-3 years since I read it. If there's a Jewish character, I've definitely forgotten him or her.
Perhaps one of the folks who voted for it can enlighten us? (I'm drawing a blank as well, but for me it's definitely been longer than 2-3 years since I read it.)
You could add them. It's easy to add books to lists; at the top of the list, at the tab next to "all votes."
Lobstergirl wrote: "There were Jews in Pride and Prejudice? And The Handmaid's Tale?"Seems I'm not the only one wondering... and even if there were (I can't remember them), they must have been (very) minor characters and therefore the books won't count as "Books (fiction) about Jews". I'll remove both books.
Many people have voted for The Catcher in the Rye, but it is definitely not a novel ABOUT jews. it's about a wasp kid in trouble.same for House of Mirth. not about jews at all. a prominent jews character, yes, but it's not what the book is about.
Well jo since you are the list creator, you get to decide precisely what the list parameters are. If you don't want a novel with one prominent Jewish character to be on the list, I would suggest you add that to the list description. The same thing can be said of "The Great Gatsby" which has one major Jewish character.
I haven't read "Catcher" since junior high so my memories are limited. If there are no Jews in it, why did 17 people vote for it?
Lobstergirl wrote: "I removed Charlotte's Web."Thank you. Perhaps the person that added CW thought the author E.B. White was jewish? Otherwise I don't understand how it made this list :D
Lobstergirl wrote: "I haven't read "Catcher" since junior high so my memories are limited. If there are no Jews in it, why did 17 people vote for it?"holden talks about jews and maybe even one particular jew, but it's really not about jews. but you are right, i should make the list description clearer.
To kill a MOckingbird is still on a list...I read it few years ago, and it DOES NOT have any Jewish characters...
The description of this Listopia says 'fiction' ["Books (fiction) about Jews"] and The Diary of a Young Girl is not fictional, so I've removed it.
