""Luck was in love with me, like everyone else." Not quite Anita Brookner, but I see why she loved it--psychological realism heightened to a fever pitch, and wonderful to both listen to and read. (I'm doing both at once.) I'm on a bipolar writer kick and aspects of the prose style had me wondering if Hartley was one of them.
