According to Nielsen's Bookscan, in 2004 the average book in the US sold around 500 copies.There were only 10 books that sold over a million copies each and according to USA Today that list contained: four books by Dan Brown, two books about the South Beach Diet, two enlightenment books, a controversial president’s autobiography, and a book released eight years earlier but bumped up because the movie adaptation came out.
