message 1: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ omg this list is missing so many good YA books!!! it should also have maximum ride, percy jackson, twilight... wow a LOT of stuff... it's such a short list!!!

message 2: by Ashley (new)

Ashley The point of the lists is for everyone to contribute. If there's a book you think should be on the list, add it.

message 3: by Wealhtheow (new)

Wealhtheow I didn't vote for the Tolkein's trilogy simply because I don't think it counts as YA. I love 'em, though!

message 4: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer The problem is that the list only allows for a hundred books to be on it.

message 5: by Ashley (new)

Ashley It allows for many more than 100, but individual users can only vote for up to 100.

message 6: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ oh srrry... i didn't realize we could add books!!! XD

message 7: by Roxanne Hsu (new)

Roxanne Hsu Feldman There are so many non-YA titles on this list... completely off the path!

message 8: by Ellen (new)

Ellen I think it's a fantastic list. Looks like I've got a lot of books to read!

I agree that LOTR isn't YA. But "The Hobbit" would be...

message 9: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Warren I have ALOT of things to read this year. And I agree, many of these are not YA. Oh, well!

message 10: by Sarah (new)

Sarah guess what. young adults read stuff that isn't marketed towards them. like tolkien. and barbara kingsolver. and jessica valenti. and shaun tan. just like adults can read stuff that isn't marketed towards THEM. like harry potter. and shaun tan. and phillip pullman. and cory doctorow.

relax a little bit. don't let marketers rule your life.

message 11: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Nobody said they didn't, but the list is geared towards books that were written specifically for young adults.

message 12: by Kailee (new)

Kailee Small i did not enjoy the book the Giver too much .
i liked it but not enough for it to be the first on the list. i love the book Twilight which is number two on the list !!!!!!

message 13: by Eli (new)

Eli Dorywright The Little Red Book was not published in 1990.

Wess Mandella I have read this many times - and always cry the same!

message 18: by Emily (new)

Emily Twilight is a good book... as JUNK food for the brain! I enjoyed reading it, but seriously are you kidding me with how many literary gems it is beating!

message 19: by Clare (new)

Clare Bell Wow, my novel Ratha's Creature is on this list. I am honored that my work has been included among these wonderful books! Clare Bell

message 20: by C (new)

C I wonder how so many of these books that aren't YA got on this list?

message 21: by J-Lynn Van Pelt (new)

J-Lynn Van Pelt Glad to see more diverse authors and main characters on this list!

Also, while Looking for Alaska is excellent, I think John Green's best is An Abundance of KAtherines.

message 23: by Alex (new)

Alex I wonder what would happen if you were only allowed one book per series, and if they took out all the repeats like the Twilight book, then the Twilight Series. I wonder how much more condensed this list would be

message 24: by Mary (new)

Mary add unwind by neal shusterman

message 25: by Henny (new)

Henny "good stephanie...another way to explore unusuall firbidden love in her's writing"

message 26: by André (new)

André The list is too long and has too much crap in it.
"Best Of's" look different.

message 27: by Chase (new)

Chase Von I added Souls of The North Wind By Chrissy K. McVay:)

Best wishes to you

Chase Von:)

message 28: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Radisavljevic When I look at this list, I wonder where children's ends and actual adult begins. Does young adult start in middle school, grade 7 grade 9? Where? There are many books I thought were great, but a bit young for young adult, such as The Hundred Dresses. I understand that Narnia is ageless, so I can see including it. But many of the books on this list seem to belong more in children's books.

message 29: by Elena (new)

Elena Oh wow! this has a lot of great books on here! ^^

message 30: by Anne (new)

Anne love these

message 31: by Anne (new)

Anne this one made me crazy at the end....bleh

message 32: by Anne (new)

Anne FANTASTIC!

message 33: by Paige (new)

Paige I love so many books on here!! I am glad that so many people voted for such good books, well i guess they wouldn't be on the best YA list if they weren't good.

message 34: by Jan (new)

Jan Well, some of my all time favorite books are on this list, and a few of them ( like Inkdeath) I have just read. So that must classify me as a young adult! And I'm a grandma! I love it! Your never too old to enjoy well written books!

message 35: by Maggie (new)

Maggie some of these books are juvenile or pre-teen.

message 36: by Abby (new)

Abby OMG I need to read twilight but my mom... grrrrr

message 37: by Erin (new)

Erin This list is mostly recent books, and it's missing a few great ones. The Secret Garden and Anne of Green Gables, to name just 2.

message 38: by Pandora (new)

Pandora There are too many children's titles on this list. Though there are books that are cross overs and are suitable for children and teens many of the children titles are really just children titles. Not saying teens can't read them but, to find the best YA title should not include books that were designed for children. There is enough on the YA shelves without confusing the issue.

Putting so many children title on the list is a little like trying to come with the best children novels and then throwing in picture books into the mix or trying to come up with the best classics and someone throws on the list a modern book. I didn't vote on this list because there are too many children titles on it. So, I find it impossible too compare the books.

message 39: by Georgia (last edited Dec 18, 2008 11:34AM) (new)

Georgia love the host and all but the ending is so so so so so bad and like soppy.

TWILIGHT SERIES HOWEVER ARE THE BEST FILMS EVER. and can not wait to see the film tomorow (yay)
and people complaining that these are like teen
books.
well young adult is basically teen so there u go.
do agree thugh that some of the films are like kiddie

message 40: by Haley (new)

Haley This is definitely high-school level, I see a lot of nov-very mature tween girls pining for an Edward and it's disturbing. But agree, v. extraordinary YA book

message 41: by Susanne (new)

Susanne Kim Imagine reading every single book on this list...

message 42: by Haley (new)

Haley Elizabeth wrote: "i love it"

message 46: by Nora (new)

Nora i've been looking for a book i read in the 80s--i've been looking for quite some time. it wasn't on this list. sister and brother who could turn into wolves, red cover, castle at the top and a wolf down in each bottom corner. maybe a rainbow. does anyone know this book? if so, please message me. i think it was by a more obscure author but i remember LOVING it when i was in 5th grade or so. -thanks.

message 47: by Elyzabeth (new)

Elyzabeth twilights above harry potter ithink because ppl like twilight a little more or a lot idk but i like twilight a little more cause just sooo awesome

Carter twlight is SUCH a good book there r like so many good ones on this list, but there r bad ones 2

message 49: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen why is twilight even on this list? it should not be here. a book shouldn't tell girls it's okay to lose all identity once you find a man. plus, her writing sucks.

message 50: by Elyzabeth (new)
