The point of the lists is for everyone to contribute. If there's a book you think should be on the list, add it.
I didn't vote for the Tolkein's trilogy simply because I don't think it counts as YA. I love 'em, though!
I think it's a fantastic list. Looks like I've got a lot of books to read!I agree that LOTR isn't YA. But "The Hobbit" would be...
guess what. young adults read stuff that isn't marketed towards them. like tolkien. and barbara kingsolver. and jessica valenti. and shaun tan. just like adults can read stuff that isn't marketed towards THEM. like harry potter. and shaun tan. and phillip pullman. and cory doctorow.relax a little bit. don't let marketers rule your life.
Nobody said they didn't, but the list is geared towards books that were written specifically for young adults.
i did not enjoy the book the Giver too much . i liked it but not enough for it to be the first on the list. i love the book Twilight which is number two on the list !!!!!!
Twilight is a good book... as JUNK food for the brain! I enjoyed reading it, but seriously are you kidding me with how many literary gems it is beating!
Wow, my novel Ratha's Creature is on this list. I am honored that my work has been included among these wonderful books! Clare Bell
Glad to see more diverse authors and main characters on this list! Also, while Looking for Alaska is excellent, I think John Green's best is An Abundance of KAtherines.
I wonder what would happen if you were only allowed one book per series, and if they took out all the repeats like the Twilight book, then the Twilight Series. I wonder how much more condensed this list would be
When I look at this list, I wonder where children's ends and actual adult begins. Does young adult start in middle school, grade 7 grade 9? Where? There are many books I thought were great, but a bit young for young adult, such as The Hundred Dresses. I understand that Narnia is ageless, so I can see including it. But many of the books on this list seem to belong more in children's books.
I love so many books on here!! I am glad that so many people voted for such good books, well i guess they wouldn't be on the best YA list if they weren't good.
Well, some of my all time favorite books are on this list, and a few of them ( like Inkdeath) I have just read. So that must classify me as a young adult! And I'm a grandma! I love it! Your never too old to enjoy well written books!
This list is mostly recent books, and it's missing a few great ones. The Secret Garden and Anne of Green Gables, to name just 2.
There are too many children's titles on this list. Though there are books that are cross overs and are suitable for children and teens many of the children titles are really just children titles. Not saying teens can't read them but, to find the best YA title should not include books that were designed for children. There is enough on the YA shelves without confusing the issue. Putting so many children title on the list is a little like trying to come with the best children novels and then throwing in picture books into the mix or trying to come up with the best classics and someone throws on the list a modern book. I didn't vote on this list because there are too many children titles on it. So, I find it impossible too compare the books.
love the host and all but the ending is so so so so so bad and like soppy. TWILIGHT SERIES HOWEVER ARE THE BEST FILMS EVER. and can not wait to see the film tomorow (yay)
and people complaining that these are like teen
books.
well young adult is basically teen so there u go.
do agree thugh that some of the films are like kiddie
This is definitely high-school level, I see a lot of nov-very mature tween girls pining for an Edward and it's disturbing. But agree, v. extraordinary YA book
wait, these are young adult? oookay then...lol ive read a few of these ;) and if i haven't ive seen them in the bookstore and/or thought about reading them.
i've been looking for a book i read in the 80s--i've been looking for quite some time. it wasn't on this list. sister and brother who could turn into wolves, red cover, castle at the top and a wolf down in each bottom corner. maybe a rainbow. does anyone know this book? if so, please message me. i think it was by a more obscure author but i remember LOVING it when i was in 5th grade or so. -thanks.
twilights above harry potter ithink because ppl like twilight a little more or a lot idk but i like twilight a little more cause just sooo awesome
why is twilight even on this list? it should not be here. a book shouldn't tell girls it's okay to lose all identity once you find a man. plus, her writing sucks.
