Phillip Gwynne, like the narrator of Deadly, Unna?, is not Aboriginal.

It's a good story, but if the purpose of the list is to recognise those authors who may have been ignored because of their cultural background, one could argue that Phillip didn't have this difficulty in getting his book published.

Hello Jessica, I know that sometimes Aboriginality is questioned, both by indigenous people and by non-indigenous people. My sources for inclusion on this list can be seen at http://anzlitlovers.com/the-anzlitlov... - which is where my original list comes from. Other people have added to the original list, and they may not have checked as carefully as I did.
*shrug* It happens here at GoodReads, and it can be rather annoying when people add books that don't belong...

My source was Gwynne - met him in school and he didn't identify as Indigenous when he wrote either DU or NY. I hope people check their additions closely before adding - quite embarrassing otherwise.

Looks like a few additions aren't recognising the list focuses on Aust. Indigenous writers either... c'mon people read the description! Shame because this is a very useful list otherwise.

and then scroll down and click remove particular books

Apologies for mucking up your great list it was me who did not read carefully and added Phillip Gwynne :(

I have deleted two titles that were written by anthropologists who were not indigenous (I checked first to be sure).
Although it's not strictly speaking by an indigenous author, I have not removed "I, the Aboriginal" by Douglas Lockwood because although he was not indigenous, the 1962 book, written in first person, is described as the autobiography of Waipuldanya, a full-blood Aboriginal man of the Alawa tribe at Roper River (Ngukurr) in the Northern Territory, as told to Douglas Lockwood.

Because this is defined as a list of indigenous Australian authors:

Roberta B. Sykes is of African and European descent, not indigenous Australian.

Mudrooroo is a pen name and, according to what I’ve read, the author is not indigenous Australian.

I could not find any source that said that Jan Hawkins is indigenous Australian.

Wise Women of the Dreamtime: Aboriginal Tales of the Ancestral Powers appears to be a retelling of indigenous Australian stories by an author of solely European descent.
