The description of this Listopia says and any not adapted for TV or film but I noticed several titles on this list which have been made into films or television series and can therefore hardly be called 'overlooked'...

I meant those descriptors in an 'either/or' way - as in, books that have never been adapted would be appropriate choices, but it's not a requirement.

Still, books that have been made into films/television series can hardly be called overlooked, as they then reach millions of people :-)

I agree that it helps their exposure, but my thinking was that some classics go in and out of fashion over time - so even if something was adapted in the distant past, or was put to film/TV by a lesser known production company, that doesn't guarantee that it'll be recognised by the general public now. I guess it varies from country to country too (i.e. the 'national' classics of one country might not be so well known overseas).

One can hardly call the BBC lesser known, and several of the titles of the list were sold abroad, as I watched them on Dutch television ;-).

Again, it is an and/or situation - if it was BBC produced but is relatively old, it might have gone out of vogue by now. I agree that there are particular 'classic' adaptations that retain their popularity over time, though.

Do you really think that the books on this list are overlooked books? :)))
