Plenty of books from my "Read" list. While some were kind of boring I suppose, none were in the max category. I'll put up "The Goldfinch." It was max boring and so much more.

Autumn, I wasn't thrilled with "Goldfinch" but the opening explosion in the museum (and the mysterious character who apparently set bombs in a display in the gift shop) kept me reading: why the explosion, and who (was it the young guy's friend?). And yes, I remember many scenes: I've been to Vegas and Phoenix and Tucson in the dry, hot American west suburbs-friends there- and the author paints the abandoned house perfectly as there were so many at the time; that late night, on the asphalt, goodbye kiss between the two friends, one European, so the kiss made sense on a couple of levels, but mainly as a kiss of betrayal; and a late scene when our hero realizes he is stranded in Europe and has nothing, not even a passport. But it was slow! And I didn't see a Pulitzer winner between the pages, but art theft is an international issue, so maybe the voters thought it a safe bet globally.
GREAT topic, as many of us are at home, clearing our shelves of 'books we've been meaning to read.' I added "Go Set a Watchman": terribly written and it is shameful since Harper Lee didn't want it published and it shouldn't have been."Gone With the Wind"? Boring? Okay, everyone has different taste. 'GWTW' is, to me, a very good version of Tolstoy's 'War and Peace' and about 1/3rd shorter! One has the sensational Scarlett, the other the incredible Pierre. Both of these characters suffer through wars and rebuild, respectively, Tara/Atlanta and Moscow. Both open at parties, both have balls/dances, I could go on and on. 'War and Peace' is good, the central story great, but Tolstoy couldn't keep himself out of the novel. Mitchell did, as she withdrew history lessons and telling us what happened or is going to happen. Thus, even at about 900 pages, Mitchell delivered a tighter, more enjoyable novel. That said, Tolstoy's Anna Karenina is, imo, one of the best books ever.
