Ogochuks Angelmercy I also pick Wonder.

message 7: by babyhippoface (new)

babyhippoface Right now, I'm fully in The One and Only Ivan camp. It's amazing and wonderful. Of course, I haven't read Gary Schmidt's new one yet, and I'm still mad about him losing the prize for Okay for Now, which was the best book I've read in YEARS. For now, Ivan owns the gold.

message 8: by Stevie (new)

Stevie i also pick wonder.

message 9: by Wendy (new)

Wendy My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece is not eligible (British author, published in the UK last year) and has been deleted.

message 10: by Mtz (new)

Mtz Wonder is fabulous book and I encourage you all to read it. I could read it a million times in a row and not get bored!

message 11: by Mr. Prince (new)

Mr. Prince The Grave Robber's Apprentice is ineligible. Author was born and lives in Canada.

message 12: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Looks that way. Thanks, I'll remove it.

message 13: by Isabella (new)

Isabella I like Wonder, but I can't see it winning. For me, it had to much pop culture, things that people won't really remember 10 years from now.

message 14: by Mimi (new)

Mimi Wonder.

message 15: by Isabella (new)

Isabella Keisha wrote: "I just finished reading Wonder with my kids and they absolutely loved it. Do you have any recommendations from this list as a follow up for 5-8 year olds?"
For that age? I would recommend Dumpling Days by Grace Lin. I was really good. It is the sequel to The Year of the Dog and The Year of the Rat but it should make complete sense by itself.
The One and Only I van is also fantastic.

message 16: by Mike (new)

Mike I'm not sure what I think of the YA books here. I like The Fault In Our Stars as much as the next guy, but it has sex in it, as well as some cursing, so I don't think it really qualifies as a kids book. The same probably goes for Insurgent, although I haven't read it, so I can't be sure. What does everyone else think?

agree with you.

The Fault is in Our Stars, Project Verity, and Bomb are all more appropriate for a young adult audience. I love all three of these books but would not vote for them in a mock Newberry.

message 20: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer I picked Wonder as my first choice, breathing room for second, and jake and lily for 3rd.
Wonder is unforgettable and shows you about real friendship and real bullys.
Breathing Room is the story that will make you cry as a girl goes to the hospital - but she doesn't just get operations.
And Jake and Lily is another fun book about brother and sister drama.

message 21: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Aidan wrote: "I read wonder."
Hi im 10 years old and I was wondering if TFIOS would be ok for me? Im not trying to brag in anyway, but I am a high level reader and have read books liek teh matched series, and atlantia both by Ally Condie, a young adult writer.

message 22: by Yanya (new)

Yanya I love Wonder! I'll never forget it.

message 23: by Susan (new)

Susan Count Liked the False Prince by Nielsen and The One and Only Ivan by Applegate.
