This is an alternative to the popular "Best Books Ever" list, focusing on the most obscure books. Here's the rule: add any book--in any genre--so long as it has 20 ratings or fewer on Goodreads. For those of you who need to slice and dice your books into ever smaller segments, if you've already run out of votes on the
Fewer than 50 Ratings List
, you will find sanctuary here.
If you, and one other person in 1847, read that book, this is the list for you. You know who you are.

Lobstergirl wrote: "Do not add books to the list that haven't even been published yet. These books will be removed."Similar case: I'm seeing this list and the "Super Underrated" list being stuffed with books rated by NObody (not even the person adding them to the list -- same voter in all cases). They're not necessarily new publications, but I still am wondering on what basis they are being added, if apparently NOT on the basis of personal knowledge of their contents?
I've noticed that too...I can't think of a legitimate reason to remove them, as long as they're published. If they take over the list like a fungus, maybe we can revisit.
Hmm. Redefine the criteria perhaps ("published books [to also cover the "advance copy/to be published in the future" issue)] with between 1 and 20 ratings")?

OK, I wrestled with how clear "Fewer than" in the title was, and I guess I chose the more fastidious interpretation. I won't make the same mistake on the other "Underrated" lists.
No problem, of course a literal interpretation of the title would suggest removing any book that hits that number. But we (the people who create and maintain these particular lists) prefer to let it go +1 beyond that.
Here's hoping The Consequences of Longing and One Nation Under God get the publicity they deserve and get kicked off this list. They are relatively new & relatively easy to find and to read. Thanks for this list!

Lobstergirl: Still holding to the policy expressed earlier?
I can't think of a sufficient reason to change it at this point. Always up for review, though, if too many of them pop up.
I was thinking more about the oddity, not the appropriateness for this list... If it has no ratings, how did it get on gr (via Ingram, I imagine) and why didn't the two voters rate and or review it?
A paradox, a paradox, a most amusing paradox...
A paradox, a paradox, a most amusing paradox...
Lots and lots of books on GR have no ratings. The user who added it to the list has it on a shelf called "no-ratings," so maybe she is drawn to ratingsless books for some reason. Some GR users read and review but don't rate. People use the site in different ways. For books I read a long time ago and can't remember much about, I shelved them as "read" but generally didn't rate them. It just didn't feel right giving stars to something I had no real memory of.
There IS this, though, that not many books on this list have titles as, err, remarkable as Night Of The Toxic Slime ...Which OTOH may be a reason why nobody's owning up to actually shelving it?

A possibility...

Or perhaps the toxic slime has disintegrated those who voted for it... mwa-hahaha!
