Technothrillers: Favorite Authors
Best/Favorite Technothriller Authors
  • Technothrillers are not simple crime thrillers
  • This list has only one book per author
  • Vote for an author by choosing that one book
  • Rank the authors, not books
  • Do not add additional books by that author
  • Adding author? Choose their most rated technothriller
  • Do not vote for a book with less than 1000 ratings

Technothrillers have moments of thriller intensity, and plots that turn on the technical details, well-established with a deep dive like Clancy's Red October or a science blitz like Crichton's Jurassic Park. These thrillers explore emerging/near-reaching possibilities. Not your classic crime suspense thriller. Not a galaxy far, far away. Not a fantasy. Nothing magical. Plausible physics in some plausible Earth-based setting.

Sometimes, a writer's most-rated book is not a technothriller, such as author Dan Brown. Click on Dan Brown's author page and you'll see a list of his books. Angels & Demons has the most ratings (about 3 million), but it is (arguably) just a classic crime suspense thriller, not a techno-thriller. There is no technology per se, and arguably no technical detail. There is detailed symbolic/scripture interpretation, but no ... science. His book Deception Point is his most rated book that truly is a technothriller (with about 700,000 ratings).

If you object that a nominated book/author is not relevant to the technothriller genre, say so in the comments. Perhaps some day I'll earn the power to do something about it.

Steve Shelby The book Untethered has 44 ratings, not 1000+. Please not that the list description specifies, in bold, Do not vote for a book with less than 1000 ratings. Please, in keeping with the stated guidelines, delete it from this list.

Steve Shelby Decryption Gambit has 26 ratings, not 1000+. Every one of those accounts voted for that one book on a multitude of lists. This is clearly a spam situation.

Steve Shelby I’m thinking Patricia Cornwell is just straight crime/murder mystery, not a technothriller. Those are not the same genre. Are you sure there is some emerging science/technology in her books? Having a forensic scientist or pathologist participate in solving a crime mystery is normal. This is not an exploration of how the world might change if someone innovated some new forensic technology, is it?

Update: Had it removed.

Steve Shelby Hallelujah! The book Untethered, spammed on here with just 2 ratings at the time, well short of the 1000 minimum required, has finally been purged. It takes time, but we fight the good fight to keep the quality of the list up.

Steve Shelby The book KING OF THE WORLD: The Global Coup by Randall Coleman was voted as one of the best authors in the genre, despite have only 1 rating. At least 1000 ratings are required for this list. This account, Brossard, also voted for this one book on 7 lists and this account joined 5 groups today and posted the same promotional paragraph on all of them. He says: “It's like a Tom Clancy novel on steroids.”
