BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) I've added Judith by Aritha van Herk, although I'm not sure that book qualifies as you mentioned the women have to be role models (Judith is about a female farmer but the story is fictional and not about a role model...)

Atina Diffley I do believe that fictional characters can be role models, can demonstrate perspectives, lives, realities outside of our own and create the adjacent possible in our own lives.
