A controversial plot device to be sure. Love em or hate em, books where either the hero or heroine steps over the line (however briefly) and "cheats". Can be historical, contemporary, whatever.

Quinn Wait, what? There was cheating in the BDB books?

And can we combine the 2 editions of Private Arrangements to bump up the votes? Love that book. :)

Kelly| Just Another Horror Reader Who cheated in Lover Eternal? I think I remember Rhage went out to a club while Mary was waiting for him back at the mansion. He cheated on her then? Say it ain't so?!?!

Kelly| Just Another Horror Reader Another one I have no memory of cheating going on. Who cheated in Desire Unchained? I've read Shade and Runa's book a few times. What??? Who???

message 4: by ~ Becs ~ (new)

~ Becs ~ Rhage cheated??

Kelly| Just Another Horror Reader OK, Shade DID cheat on Runa, but I still don't remember Rhage cheating. Where's our BDB experts? Lenore, Mel, Beanbag? He cheated on Mary?

message 6: by Magda (new)

Magda Yes, it was Rhage because he needed to keep his dragon under control.

message 7: by Tami (last edited Jun 19, 2012 09:20AM) (new)

Tami Rhage and Mary weren't technically 'together' when it happened. He didn't feel right about 'using her' to tame his beast so he went out one night while leaving her at the mansion to take care of his needs with some random bar fly.

message 8: by Hbeebti (new)

Hbeebti I just re-read Rhages book so that I remember, but Lover Awakened I do not remember Zsadist cheating or even Bella. That was my favorite of the series. I need to do some re-reading cause I do not remember Rune or Shade cheating as well.

message 9: by Buggy (last edited Jun 19, 2012 11:21AM) (new)

Buggy Hi Guys, thanks for voting!!

Here's what I know about BDB cheating;
Zsadist (kinda) cheated when he bit that prostitutes neck in the alley and fed from her in front of Bella -god that was heartbreaking. Plus he wanted Bella to "be" with his brother because he felt Phury was a male of worth.

Rhage cheated on Mary (early on) because he felt she wouldn't be able to handle his beast and he needed sex to keep it quiet.

I added Lover Unleashed because who really knows what happened between V and Butch in that penthouse during V's healing session or especially afterwards when they lay down together for a cuddle in V's bedroom and then showered and couldn't look each other in the eye. I think lots happened and I think about it a lot :)

Kelly| Just Another Horror Reader Thank you for clearing that up, Buggy. :-)

Too funny about Butch and V Buggy! Is it really cheating when both Marissa and Jane know what's going on?

message 13: by Buggy (new)

Buggy Hey Megan, well I just don't know? I suppose cheating is cheating irregardless. I also don't think Marissa and Jane really know whats going on between them- or the full extent of it anyways. They just think that they're close buddies who heal each other. at least thats my take on it

Megan Riverina Romantics I'm not so sure about that LOL. But who really knows? :D

I would love love love to read a "dark novella" as to what might have happened between V and Butch because I feel much of that story was left on the cutting room floor. How intense could that have been if Ward was willing to go there!

message 16: by Buggy (new)

Buggy Oh Samantha me too. I've spent way too much time imagining what happened. Ward is just a tease, hinting but not giving us anything concrete.

message 17: by Kim (new)

Kim Butch and V? Ohhhhhhh.....that's freaking hot thoughts right there. I need to catch up on this series. Pronto.

message 18: by Buggy (new)

Buggy Yeah they are Kim. You should definitely get caught up in time for Qhuay's book!

message 19: by Sassy Smut (new)

Sassy Smut I get hot just thinking about Quay's book! Damn, gotta change my panties!

That's something I'd love to read, Sam. You'd definitely need to change your panties after that one!!!

Everytime I look at this list I think of that old country and western song: Your Cheatin' Heart will tell on you. it goes something like "when tears come down like fallin' rain, I walk the floor and call your name, " wish I could remember the rest of it.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

here is the song for those of you who have never heard it: http://youtu.be/cS4LCoh0VGQ

message 23: by Victoria (new)

Victoria The only one of these I've read is "Gone With the Wind," and I don't think Scarlett's crush on Ashley can be considered cheating as he did not return her affection. If there was any other cheating, I don't remember it.

Victoria wrote: "The only one of these I've read is "Gone With the Wind," and I don't think Scarlett's crush on Ashley can be considered cheating as he did not return her affection. If there was any other cheating,..."

Yes, I wondered if I should add it as she only cheated in her mind. Maybe it should be deleted? I think he did return her affection but he was a coward.

message 25: by Victoria (new)

Victoria I can see that. The "worshipped her from afar, but too cowardly to act upon his feelings" man that she later disdained when she saw him for who he really was.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Victoria wrote: "I can see that. The "worshipped her from afar, but too cowardly to act upon his feelings" man that she later disdained when she saw him for who he really was."

He admits to this somewhere in the book but I cannot remember where it is. Near the end I guess.

Thanks for the song and link Alice. That's what was in my mind when I was thinking of a title for this list. Its turned into a great list, who knew there were so many cheating books especially when so many people seem to hate this plot device.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I always find this plot device fascinating and the characters more interesting. Glad you liked the song link and thanks for a very interesting list.

message 29: by SeptemberTenth (new)

SeptemberTenth Rhage definitely cheated on Mary. He went to the bar to quench his beast's "thirst" because it always became agitated around Mary (in a good way). Yes "technically" they weren't together, but he loved her, and that counts for something.
Zsadist fed from a human prostitute IN FRONT OF BELLA *smh*, which may not be a big deal in some vampire books, but I think we could all agree that in the BDB series, it's a big deal.
As for Butch and V, I guess it would have been nice to see some romance between the two, but we all know that Butch only had eyes for Marissa. Though I have no doubt that, given the chance, V wouldn't have hesitated lol. Gotta love the guy.

Sorry, just my 2cents.

message 30: by Buggy (last edited Apr 27, 2013 12:47PM) (new)

Buggy Loving your 2cents SeptemberTenth!!

And I agree with you on all fronts. Yeah, Z feeding in front of Bella was a huge deal (that is such a hot scence, I have to read his book...again)

As for Butch and V I'm not convinced that they haven't gone "there" or somewhere close in the last couple of books, Shellan's or not.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Nic wrote: "Was there cheating in Slammed and Hopeless?? I can't remember there ever was!"

I don't remember it either but there was the appearance of it. Remember when his old girlfiend showed up and he was too stupid to lock his front door so she came in and made tons of trouble? I started to get irritated with him at that point.

Helen Rhys Who cheats in The sea of Tranquility?.....Josh was not in a relationship with Nastya/Sunshine/Emilia when she hear him having sex with the other chick.
