I'm confused, is this supposed to be a list of books we agree should have been banned or books we've discovered that have been banned?

I voted for books I loved that were banned. I personally don't think any book should be banned for any reason. If you don't like a book, don't read it, but by all means don't take the opportunity to read great literature (or even rotten books) away from anyone. What we read should be our choice, not the decision of someone else.
http://www.marshall.edu/library/banne... has the 2008-2009 list and previous years back to 2000-2001.
I'm not sure you understand this list. These are books that we like that have been banned at some point in their history.
We are not suggesting books to be banned.
here is my definitionBanned Books
-list of books that have been banned in the past or are banned at present time by a government, political party, religious group or organization, etc.
Good lord. Never ban books! If you don't like them, don't read them...I am amazed anyone thought this was a list of books that should be banned!I know The Lorax sometimes gets challenged as pagan (tree worshippers...some folks will really reach for it). Can anyone tell me why My Antonia is on the list? I don't recall anything controversial in it, but of course I wasn't reading it with this list in mind.
There are, of course, books that have been challenged in one place or another that did not make the official list (but thanks for providing it, Susannah). I was floored by some of the titles that drew complaints and "excuse" notes when I taught language arts. Believe it or not, the one book we must never, never touch was A Christmas Carol! Telling folks that we were not suggesting that all children should celebrate Christmas, fell on deaf ears. No, no and no. Got to where the stress wasn't worth the fight. Then several others drew complaints, and the "suggested" list had to go! No recommended novels in writing. Have a shelf. (I suspect this was so a teacher could pretend they had NO IDEA how THAT book got on the shelf, if questioned, but I was never that big a wimp). Some of these books are sensitive enough that I would never recommend requiring them, but to not be able to recommend them to young readers still amazes me.
The only title I question here is Winnie the Pooh. Really?
To the best of my knowledge, Pooh has certainly been challenged; by a group in Kansas who also had it in for Charlotte's Web (both feature talking animals). "The same parent group in Kansas that objected to Charlotte’s Web in 2006 also cited the talking animals of Winnie-the-Pooh as being an insult to God in public arguments during their quest to ban the novel by E.B. White."
Some Moslems have a problem with Piglet, as well.
